*Job Title:* Dean of Curriculum and Instruction *Intern**Reports To:* Director of Education and Curriculum & Dean of Curriculum and Instruction *Classification:* Full-Time, Exempt *Location:* The Expedition School, Hillsborough, NC *Position Overview* At The Expedition School, we believe that student achievement is the result of strong instructional leadership, aligned curriculum, data-driven instruction, and excellent teaching practices. We are seeking a *Dean of Curriculum and Instruction Intern* to serve as a key instructional leader-in-training who ensures rigorous, standards-aligned teaching and drives teacher development. This leader will learn and operationalize the frameworks outlined by Paul Bambrick-Santoyo in _Leverage Leadership_, _Driven by Data_, and _Get Better Faster_, tied to our school’s PBL framework, to create a high-achieving, joyful school culture centered on learning outcomes. In addition to instructional leadership, this role includes learning and implementing responsibilities traditionally assigned to a Vice Principal, including teacher supervision and evaluation, as well as learning to lead the school’s *Beginning Teacher Support Program (BTSP)* in alignment with North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) standards. This is a one year, full-time, paid internship. July 2026-June 2027. Includes benefits. *Key ResponsibilitiesLearn all functionalities of the role while building trust with staff.** Participating in training July 2026 through December 2026, with gradually releasing responsibilities.

* Interns already trained in these skills may move more quickly to independent responsibilities. *1. Teacher Coaching and Development (Aligned with *_*Get Better Faster*_*)** Provide *weekly 1:1 coaching* to a portfolio of teachers using the “See It, Name It, Do It” framework.
* Use the _Get Better Faster_ scope and sequence to guide teacher development and align feedback to the highest-leverage action steps.
* Lead *bite-sized, action-oriented practice sessions* to build teacher skill quickly and deeply.
* Model and support classroom management and instructional delivery techniques, including real-time coaching and co-teaching. *2. Data-Driven Instruction (Aligned with *_*Driven by Data*_*)** Lead *weekly or biweekly data meetings* using the 6-step data meeting protocol.
* Ensure benchmark assessments are standards-aligned, rigorous, and analyzed to drive instruction and intervention.
* Guide teachers in creating *reteach plans* that respond to assessment data.
* Monitor data trends to ensure all students make academic progress. *3. Instructional Planning and Curriculum Leadership (Aligned with *_*Leverage Leadership*_*)** Facilitate *weekly lesson planning meetings*, ensuring internalization of standards and rigorous content.
* Lead unit unpacking, alignment of objectives, proficiency scale work, and curriculum mapping across grade levels.
* Support cross-grade vertical alignment and coherence of instructional practices.
* Select, adapt, and manage curricular resources. *4. Curriculum Fidelity and Instructional Integrity** Study and master all core curriculum materials used by general education teachers across subjects and grade levels.
* Support teachers in implementing curriculum with fidelity to pacing, rigor, and instructional intent.
* Coach teachers to internalize lessons and make effective adjustments while maintaining alignment to standards and assessments.
* Conduct *stack audits* of student work across classrooms to assess curriculum implementation, identify gaps in rigor, and ensure alignment to lesson objectives.
* Facilitate reflective conversations and action planning with teachers based on stack audit findings.
* Assist in leadership of selection of new curriculum as needed. *5. Teacher Supervision and Evaluation** Supervise a team of teachers across multiple grades and subject areas.
* Conduct *formal and informal observations* using the North Carolina Educator Evaluation System (NCEES) or other district-approved evaluation tools.
* Provide actionable, evidence-based feedback in post-observation conferences that supports teacher growth and student achievement.
* Partner with the Director of Education and Curriculum to ensure consistency and fairness in evaluations, and to inform staffing and professional development decisions.
* Maintain thorough documentation of teacher performance and progress toward goals. *6. Beginning Teacher Support Program (BTSP) Leadership** Serve as the *school-based BTSP coordinator*, in alignment with NCDPI guidelines and district expectations.
* Ensure all Beginning Teachers (BT1–BT3) receive the required mentoring, observations, and support.
* Facilitate an effective *induction process* for new teachers, including orientation, onboarding, and training on instructional expectations.
* Collaborate with assigned mentors to monitor and document BT progress using required tools and forms (e.g., PDPs, observation rubrics, mentor logs).
* Provide differentiated coaching and emotional support to early-career teachers to help them meet licensure and professional growth goals.
* Ensure all BTSP compliance requirements (e.g., mentor assignments, evaluation timelines) are met and documented.
* Hold professional development sessions targeted to Beginning Teacher needs. *7. Academic Environment and Student Work Celebrations** Own and execute the *academic look and feel* of the school, ensuring all spaces reflect a culture of high expectations and student achievement.
* Develop and implement a *rotational bulletin board calendar* to ensure regular refreshes that display current, standards-aligned student work.
* Coach teachers on selecting and displaying student work that reflects academic rigor and growth.
* Ensure bulletin boards and classroom displays include Essential questions, learning targets, project maps and rubrics or proficiency scales where appropriate to highlight mastery.
* Promote school-wide pride in academic achievement by celebrating exemplary work in visible, meaningful ways. *8. Instructional Culture and Leadership** Conduct regular instructional walkthroughs and collaborate with the leadership team to calibrate on instructional expectations.
* Lead or co-lead professional development sessions during summer training and ongoing PD days.
* Support a culture of high expectations and joy in classrooms.
* Collaborate on strategic planning, goal-setting, and school improvement efforts.
* Assist the Director of Education and Curriculum with other leadership roles as required, including serving on or leading school leadership teams. *Qualifications** Deep belief in the mission of The Expedition School and a commitment to educational equity.
* At least *3 years of successful classroom teaching experience*.
* Prior experience in teacher coaching, instructional leadership, or curriculum development.
* Experience conducting teacher evaluations and knowledge of the North Carolina Educator Evaluation System (NCEES) is strongly preferred.
* Strong knowledge of standards-based instruction, curriculum alignment, and data-driven practices.
* Experience mentoring or supporting beginning teachers is a plus.
