Job Summary Duke University Law School’s J. Michael Goodson Law Library seeks interns for the 2026-2027 academic year (summer start possible), continuing through Spring 2028. The internship supports a range of departmental processes and projects under the direction of librarians in collections, cataloging, access services, and reference. The team is dedicated to mentoring the intern to meet goals and develop skills within academic or law libraries. Individuals with or without law degrees are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities Support assessment and updates of collections and collections processes Cataloging, metadata, and eResource management Digital initiatives and institutional repository Promote student engagement with library services, outreach planning, displays, and collections review Update research guides, website information, and/or teaching materials Provide research assistance and directional information at the library service desk and for faculty in conjunction with reference librarians Assist with delivering and developing class materials Analyze and itemize database licenses Develop and conduct e-resource accessibility assessments Contribute to access services projects and service improvement initiatives Perform other job-related duties as assigned or directed Qualifications Required: Current enrollment in a library or information science graduate studies program by start of internship. Preferred: One semester of coursework or prior experience in libraries or related fields; interest in academic librarianship. A legal degree or background is not required for this internship. Individuals with or without law degrees are encouraged to apply. Hours Temporary, exempt, paid position for the full fall and spring academic semesters (with a possible summer start). Schedule of 10 to 15 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Environment Onsite at the J. Michael Goodson Law Library, Duke University School of Law (210 Science Dr, Durham, NC 27708). The library serves the Duke Law School community, Duke University, the local legal community, and the general public. Compensation Paid position at $18.00 per hour.
