Essential Duties and Responsibilities Plan, direct, and coordinate the work of survey staff, engage in surveying earth's surface and preparing maps, drawings, legal descriptions, and exhibits of land by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors and staff. Subdivision and parcel map checking. Lot line adjustment & lot merger document checking. Easement and right‑of‑way acquisition and vacation document checking. Act as City/County Surveyor for cities and counties throughout California. Preparation of easement and right‑of‑way legal descriptions and plats. Respond to questions and recommend appropriate administration of the Subdivision Map Act and Professional Land Surveyor's Act. Coordinate subconsultant field and office survey work. Work with various divisions (engineers and architects) within Willdan to provide necessary services, such as boundary and topographic surveys, aerial photogrammetry, airborne lidar, terrestrial scanning, preparation of legal descriptions and plat maps, coordination of appraisal and acquisition services. Provide legal work – offer technical expertise in the review of defective title, reformation of deeds, expert witness. Provide technical guidance and support to surveying staff. Monitor project budgets and timelines to ensure efficiency and profitability. Ensure the quality and accuracy of survey data and deliverables. Oversee office survey staff and monitor employee development. The City/County Surveyor will provide survey map and document checking services, along with consultation support for Public Works and Planning Departments. The selected individual will perform professional review, oversight, and advisory services in compliance with the California Subdivision Map Act, Professional Land Surveyor's Act, applicable county ordinances, and industry best practices. Job Requirements Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four‑year college or university, or equivalent work experience. Active California Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license. At least 10 years of progressive professional land surveying experience. Background in subdivision mapping (major and minor) and subdivision processes, including demonstrated experience with preparation and review of subdivision maps, parcel maps, legal descriptions, lot line adjustments and lot mergers, right‑of‑way engineering, easements, records of survey, corner records, ALTA/NSPS surveys, boundary and topographic surveys, and design surveys.
