Company Description Stu’s Home Improvement Outlet is a mission-driven discount retail operation that sells brand-new and open-box home improvement items at steep savings, including furniture, flooring, lighting, appliances, tools, and more. Based in Dubuque, Iowa, Stu’s serves as the retail arm of Restoration Works, a nonprofit focused on emergency home stabilization, youth mentorship, addiction recovery, and reentry support. Proceeds from every purchase help fund critical home repairs, accessibility projects such as wheelchair ramps, and housing support for veterans, survivors of domestic violence, and families rebuilding from crisis. The store offers major retail discounts, community-focused service, and veteran-centered giving. Role Description The Sales Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Dubuque, IA, responsible for leading daily sales operations and driving revenue while supporting the store’s mission. This role oversees the sales floor, coaches and develops sales associates, and ensures excellent customer service for walk-in, consignment, and donation customers. The Sales Manager monitors inventory flow and merchandising, collaborates with leadership on pricing and promotions, and helps manage local pickup, delivery, and shipping processes. Day-to-day responsibilities include setting sales goals, tracking performance metrics, resolving customer issues, and maintaining a safe, clean, and “zero-drama” work environment. The Sales Manager also contributes to community outreach, mission storytelling, and building a culture that supports team members seeking mentorship and a path forward. Qualifications Sales leadership and retail operations skills, including experience managing sales teams, setting goals, and overseeing daily store activities. Customer service and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport, handle concerns, and represent a mission-driven brand professionally. Inventory, merchandising, and basic analytical skills to manage stock levels, organize displays, and interpret sales data and KPIs. Coaching, mentoring, and team-building skills to support a diverse workforce and foster a positive, inclusive, high-energy environment. Strong organizational and time-management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced retail setting. Experience in home improvement, hardware, furniture, or related retail segments is preferred but not required. Comfort working with basic point-of-sale systems and common office software; willingness to learn new tools and processes. High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or relevant certifications in sales or management are a plus.
