Nurse Auditor

This full‑time position will work Monday‑Friday from 8:00am‑5:00pm in the Operating Room. At Houston Methodist, the Nurse Auditor is responsible for auditing and reconciling patient charts on a daily basis or upon request from Payor’s on‑site auditors, Patient Accounting, Risk Management, Revenue Cycle, and other hospital entities to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements, hospital and system policies and procedures. Responsibilities Audit and reconcile patient charts daily or as requested to verify that clinical documentation supports all billed services. Identify and correct errors or discrepancies, prepare reports of exceptions, and provide recommendations for corrective action. Respond to audit requests through verbal exit conferences or written exchanges. Collaborate with the Business/Finance office to communicate audit results and deliver corrective action lists to management. Review case records for consistency and accuracy in documentation. Train and educate staff on documentation and charging processes. Assist with intradepartmental data collection for audits and prepare monthly audit reports. Perform quality and safety audits, exercise clinical judgment, and intervene to promote compliance with regulatory, national, and regional guidelines. Evaluate the effectiveness of performance improvement programs and contribute to improvement initiatives. Qualifications Graduate of an approved education program for the RN credential. Three years of hospital clinical experience, preferably in a surgical setting. One year of auditing experience in a surgical or hospital setting. Licenses & Certifications Registered Nurse (RN) with Texas State Licensure (Texas Board of Nursing). PSV Compact Licensure – must obtain a permanent Texas license within 60 days if establishing residency. Work Attire Uniform: no scrubs. Business professional: yes. Other department‑approved attire: yes. On‑Call & Travel May be required to be on‑call during emergencies (disaster, severe weather events, etc.).
