Endoscopy Technician

Job Details Job Location: Bristol, TN 37660 JOB DESCRIPTION: ENDOSCOPY TECHNICIAN General Summary The Endoscopy Technician is responsible for the set-up of all equipment prior to procedures and will ensure that the equipment is functional. They are also responsible for high‑level disinfection of ancillary equipment and supplies used during endoscopic procedures in accordance to infection control guidelines. During a colonoscopy, the technician may be asked to manipulate the outer abdominal wall of a patient, to facilitate advancement of the video endoscope instrument through the intestine. The Endoscopy Technician is also responsible for patient safety during other types of GI procedures. The primary role of the Endoscopy Technician is to assist physicians with endoscopic procedures. Main Responsibilities Endoscopy Technologist Perform necessary set‑up of procedure room; instrumentation, equipment, sterile solutions, etc. Test equipment prior to procedure to ensure that it is in proper working order Set up for and assist with patient examinations and therapeutic procedures. Assist in positioning the patient on the procedure table and cover with sterile surgical drapes Transport patients and equipment Maintain cleanliness and safety of a variety of equipment, report any hazardous equipment and seek repairs when necessary Perform computer entry of patient during exam while maintaining confidentiality Knowledge of specimen preparation, labeling and handling Clean scopes after each use and prepare them for processing as well as appropriate storage of endoscopy scopes Assist with ordering and stocking of supplies in preparation for case load Assemble the necessary equipment and supplies according to type of procedure performed Assist in connecting patient to cardiac monitor: B/P cuff, EKG leads, Pulse Oximeter Assist in providing a safe and efficient environment for all endoscopy patients and physicians Recognize legal and policy limits of individual responsibility Demonstrate proper use of all endoscopy equipment Act as first assist to Surgical Technician as needed under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager and Registered Nurse; indirect supervision from Physician Ensure equipment is serviced Monitor and change DSD equipment Respect patient’s rights to privacy, dignity and confidentiality Participate in cross‑training to other departments Participate as delegated in various committee functions Participate in departmental conferences, orientation of new personnel and in service programs as assigned Assist with housekeeping duties as necessary to provide a safe environment Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent required 5 years satisfactory previous employment as Endoscopy Technician preferred Current CPR certification and capable of initiating cardio‑pulmonary resuscitation in times of emergency Knowledge of principles of sterile technique Surgical Assisting preferred Physical/Mental Demands Essential: Communication with others to exchange or express information and ideas. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm. Perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature. Perform with frequent interruptions and/ or distractions. Make appropriate job decisions following standard office policies and past precedents. Adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co‑workers and the public. Ability to interact appropriately with colleagues and patients for different purposes and different context. Occasionally operates computer and machinery. Marginal: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 25% of the time. Medium work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or 20 lbs frequently, and/or 10 lbs constantly. Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips. Work independently and identify potentially more effective methods of work operations. Observing an area that can be seen up and down or to right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point.
