About the Position

Job Title: ER Clinical Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Nursing Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 7PM - 7:30AM Hours per Shift: 11.5 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years Emergency Medicine experience (adults and/or pediatrics), 1 year travel experience preferred. License: NYS RN License Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, NIHSS Certification required; certifications such as TNCC, ENPC, CEN are a plus. Must-Have: Pediatric Emergency Department experience, BSN Description: The ER Clinical Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse who provides safe, competent quality care based on nursing theory and research to a designated group of patients and significant others. Delivers patient care by incorporating the tenets of the professional practice model of Relationship Centered Care. Applies the nursing process based upon theory, research, evidence-based practice, and approved organizational nursing standards. Assesses and evaluates patient care needs and applies critical thinking skills in patient care management. Integrates relevant assessment and intervention skills in the delivery of nursing care. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary healthcare team in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the plan of care. Prioritizes all aspects of patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, and planning after hospital care, and delegating to others as appropriate. Educates patients and caregivers about their plan of care, transition of care, promotion of health, and prevention of disease. Communicates effectively and professionally with patients, family, and all members of the interdisciplinary patient care team. Manages assignments within the Care Delivery Model of Modified Primary Nursing and demonstrates effective allocation of resources. Role models the tenets of Relationship Centered Care through facilitation of actions including Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, med reviews, and discharge planning. Considers patients' values, preferences, cultural diversity, expressed needs, and knowledge in all aspects of care. Establishes and maintains a therapeutic relationship with the patient and family. Uses evidence-based practices to understand patients' perceptions of care. Initiates service recovery for patients and families with concerns and escalates as needed. Demonstrates caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening in interactions. Supports staff in using evidence-based practices to enhance understanding of patients' perceptions of care. Conducts Purposeful Hourly Rounding addressing the four Ps. Practices safe and efficient patient-centered care while identifying and escalating barriers and opportunities for improvement. Demonstrates clinical skills and knowledge crucial to quality and safety in the patient population served. Implements process improvement strategies based on evidence. Engages in formal and informal peer and institutional review processes. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to create and implement quality improvement projects and nursing research studies. Contributes to quality and safety practices and compliance measures. Implements principles of high reliability to ensure a safe environment for patients. Escalates potential safety hazards or gaps from best practices following institutional chain of command protocols. Utilizes information technology by documenting nursing practice to support quality and performance improvement initiatives. Performs charge nurse duties as assigned. Coordinates with management to ensure supplies are utilized appropriately and inventory is sufficient. Escalates material or staffing resource deficits when necessary. Demonstrates patient-focused and cost-effective approaches to patient care. Documents accurately and thoroughly in compliance with regulatory standards. Facilitates patient throughput on a shift basis. Contributes to an environment that supports clinical colleagues, patients, and their families. Advances clinical competence in nursing practice. Projects a professional image and communicates with caring and respect. Incorporates ethical principles into decision-making for patients and families. Encourages lifelong learning and innovation for self and others. Acquires knowledge and skills relative to the role and patient population.
