About This Role In addition to supporting our district's equity commitments as expressed in Board Policy 7:12: Ensuring Racial and Educational Equity, the Student Support Specialist will play a vital role in fostering an equitable and supportive environment that prioritizes holistic growth, social-emotional development, and academic achievement for all students. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Contribute to the school climate in a positive manner that promotes helping students and staff feel a sense of belonging at school. Assist principal with student behavior. Lead the MTSS Culture & Climate school-wide team at school. Oversee behavioral data entry into district systems and analyze data trends. Implement the district student surveys. Meet with other MTSS Culture & Climate leaders across the district. Participate in MTSS and problem-solving meetings. Coordinate Tiers 2 and 3 interventions with the team for some students. Lead the social-emotional curriculum at school. Support principal with building schedules. Maintain an active role in before-school, lunch/recess, and after-school supervision. Help with bus arrivals and departures. Contribute to the development and implementation of the school improvement process/plan and serve as a member of the Building Leadership Team. Assist principal in assuring all classrooms are following the district curriculum by classroom visits. Assure the smooth operation of the school. Monitor and work with students and families when there are chronic absences. Communicate with all appropriate administrative personnel, teaching staff, parents, students, and others. Cooperate with all personnel to assure the best education for all students and coordinate efforts to develop it. Act as an IAR testing coordinator. Work with LAS, Enrichment Specialist, team members, teachers, students, and parents to ensure all students' needs identified are met. Work closely with social worker, nurse, and team to support at-risk and special education students. Serve as acting principal in the absence of the principal. Help new students and families acclimate them to the school. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal. Content Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Previous administrative experience preferred. Certified de-escalation and restraint training expected. Candidate Qualifications ISBE Type 75 General Administrative Certificate. Related Master's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university. Physical Requirements This position requires the performance of light work—including exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently—to move objects. It requires close visual acuity, frequent talking, hearing, walking, climbing stairs and standing, occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. The job is performed in non-hazardous environments and a clean atmosphere. The position requires indoor and outdoor supervision during varying temperatures and climatic conditions.
