Its primary purpose is to enhance the private support and knowledge of the university by initiating programs, events, and activities that stimulate involvement and interest of alumni, friends, parents, corporations, and foundations to develop relationships that foster giving to the university. Responsibilities Collaborate with the Executive Director of Development to implement major gift development programs. Identify resource needs of assigned colleges and create philanthropic fundraising plans. Meet regularly with Deans, the Executive Director, Chief Development Officer, and cause to operationalize development goals. Prepare and undertake face‑to‑face solicitations, funding proposals, and stewardship activities to engage donors. Collaborate with faculty, department chairs, alumni, and advisory committees to cultivate prospects and donors. Maintain and enhance a major gift prospect pool, actively cultivating and soliciting prospects. Coordinate with divisional departments such as advancement services, alumni affairs, government relations, and strategic communications to optimize donor experience. Integrate development activities with university‑wide advancement programs and assets, including Annual Fund, Planned Giving, and sponsorships. Work with university prospect management systems to record donor contacts. Conduct personal face‑to‑face prospect calls, aiming for at least two visits per week. Undertake off‑campus travel to meet prospects and donors, participate in campaigns, grant writing, and special fundraising events. Document donor and prospect contact in the CRM system and use fundraising dashboards to identify opportunities. Support executive‑level donor societies and promote donor interests and volunteerism. Search and profile potential corporate and foundation supporters and pursue them strategically. Work with the Executive Director to create and implement advancement training for faculty and staff. Assist with fundraising messaging for communication materials such as web, social media, and newsletters. Campus‑Wide Participation Serve as a vital member of the University Advancement team. Work with advancement colleagues to vision campus‑wide development goals, initiatives, and events. Represent the university in advisory meetings, cultivation events, and receptions. Evaluate and refine development strategies and activities. Refer individuals to the annual giving office and collaborate with the corporate grant specialist. Assist in general donor cultivation, solicitations, and stewardship for campus support. Adhere to the latest valuation, recording, and reporting guidelines of the division and university. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university. Valid California Driver’s License and required insurance. Seven years of progressive experience in major gifts fundraising or equivalent business development in higher education or similar environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to build relationships with high‑profile leaders. Demonstrated success in donor cultivation, asks, proposal preparation, and gift processing. Knowledge of graduate gift types and ways to give; ability to conduct personal face‑to‑face calls. Willingness to work evenings and weekends for cultivation meetings, events, and activities. Highest standards of professional conduct and integrity. Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree preferred. Familiarity with contemporary state and national issues in Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and Educational Studies. Experience in higher education or non‑profit setting preferred. Participation in development/advancement organizations such as CASE, APRA, NSFRE, and AFP. Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential preferred.
