Position Summary At Bayou Processing & Storage , we specialize in steel toll processing and warehousing, serving industries including energy, automotive, and construction. We are seeking a dependable and safety-focused Production Operator to support daily operations within our steel coil processing facility. This position plays a vital role in maintaining efficient production by assisting with machine operation, equipment setup, material handling, quality verification, and general production support. The ideal candidate enjoys working in a fast‑paced industrial environment, takes pride in producing quality work, and is committed to working safely as part of a team. Key Responsibilities Assist in the operation of slitting lines and other steel coil processing equipment. Support machine setup activities, including slitter head changes and tooling preparation under the direction of experienced operators. Assist with loading, staging, and moving steel coils and processed material using overhead cranes, forklifts, or other material handling equipment (training provided as required). Monitor production processes and report equipment issues, quality concerns, or safety hazards to leadership. Perform routine housekeeping and maintain an organized work area following 5S standards. Support preventive maintenance activities and basic equipment inspections. Conduct basic quality inspections to verify product meets customer specifications. Read and follow work orders, production schedules, and operating procedures. Move between production areas as needed to support operational demands. Follow all company safety policies and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times. Work collaboratively with operators, maintenance personnel, supervisors, and fellow team members to achieve production goals. Qualifications Previous manufacturing, steel processing, or industrial experience preferred but not required. Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn machine setup, operation, and troubleshooting. Ability to follow detailed work instructions and maintain attention to quality. Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to workplace safety. Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 lbs independently on a routine basis and handle materials safely as part of daily job duties. Ability to stand for extended periods and maintain safe body positioning while performing tasks and moving through the work area, including walking on concrete floors and uneven surfaces. Frequent squatting, bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting, requiring full‑body mobility, balance, and upper- and lower-body strength to perform work safely. Manual agility to operate tools safely and effectively, with regular use of arms, shoulders, and back for lifting, reaching, and positioning tasks. Ability to work safely in a warehouse environment with exposure to noise, dust, moving equipment, and varying temperatures.
