Pharmacy Faculty: Teach, Research & Impact

Primary Purpose Provides high quality instruction in field of expertise to ensure students meet course and programmatic outcomes. Collaborates with college administration, staff, and colleagues to improve students’ learning experiences. Conducts research or scholarship in field of expertise to advance knowledge. Engages in pursuing external funding to support and enhance teaching, research, and service. Provides service for the benefit of internal and external communities. Collaborates with College of Pharmacy administrators, staff, and colleagues in the pursuit of its mission and vision. Job Category Exempt Hiring Range — Pay Basis Annually Subject to Grant Funding No Essential Job Functions Teaching Provides high quality instruction in field of expertise, ensuring students meet course outcomes. Plans, evaluates, and revises curricula, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction. Selects and obtains materials and supplies, including textbooks and laboratory equipment. Prepares materials for laboratory activities, if assigned, and course materials, such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts. Identifies specialized materials for outside reading assignments. Initiates, facilitates, and moderates classroom discussions. Assists students who need extra help with their coursework outside of class. Maintains student attendance records, grades, and other required records. Evaluates and grades students’ class work, laboratory and clinic work, assignments, and/or papers. Compiles and administers necessary course and programmatic assessments to ensure compliance with College and University standards. Maintains regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students. Advise students on academic and experiential curricula and on career issues. Acts as advisor to student organizations, ensuring adherence to college and university policies and procedures. Teaches in an interprofessional environment. Teaches in an environment conducive to distance and remote learners. Clinical Instruction Assesses clinical education needs and patient and client teaching needs using a variety of methods. Coordinates training programs as needed. Maintains a clinical practice. Demonstrates patient care. Precept students on their experiential learning experience. Works collegially in an interprofessional environment. Research & Scholarship Conducts research and/or scholarly activity in a particular field of knowledge and publishes findings in professional journals, books, or electronic media. Writes and submits grant proposals to procure external research funding. Participates in peer-review activities related to grants and manuscripts for publication in journals. Supervises undergraduate or graduate or professional students’ teaching, internship, and research work. Service & Professional Development Participates in campus and community events, such as giving presentations to the public. Actively identifies opportunities and provides service relating to fields of expertise for the benefit of internal and external communities. Provides professional consulting services to government or industry is encouraged. Remains current in specialized areas of practice, illustrated by attending professional conferences, maintaining appropriate certifications and licensure, and maintaining affiliations with networks and association of scholars in field of expertise. Attends faculty development programming both internally and externally. Other Assigned Duties Collaborates with staff, administrators, and colleagues to address teaching and research issues, and to improve students’ learning experiences. Advises individual assigned students to the best academic, professional, and personal ability possible. Serves on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, departmental matters, and academic issues. Participates in student recruitment and retention. Mentors junior and adjunct faculty members as needed. Keeps abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences. Attends graduation, convocation, white coat ceremony and other assigned college activities as requested. Performs other duties as assigned or required. General knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups. English Language – Thorough knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. Physical Requirements Speech Recognition – Must be able to identify and understand the speech of another person. Speech Clarity – Must be able to speak clearly so others can understand you. Travel – Must be able to travel on a daily and/or overnight basis. May be required to work nights or weekends. May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties. May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies, to include but not limited to pens, pencils, mobile devices, and computer keyboards. Required Certifications/Licensures Must be licensed to practice Pharmacy in the State of Florida. May be subject to criminal background check and drug screening prior to placement at practice site. Required Education Doctoral Degree Major (if required) Pharm.D. Required Experience Minimum one (1) year of postdoctoral/residency/academic/clinical experience. For Assistant Professor Possess a Doctoral or terminal degree in the field. Should possess college-level teaching experience. Demonstrate clear promise of a successful career in teaching, scholarship, and service. For Associate Professor Possess a Doctoral or terminal degree. Demonstrate continued professional growth and success in full-time university teaching, research/scholarship, and service at the rank of Assistant Professor. In unusual cases, an outstanding record in only one of these activities and an adequate record in the others may be considered sufficient. Demonstrate significant scholarly or scholarship/research contributions to the University, higher education, or the candidate’s academic area(s) of specialization that have received peer recognition. Possess 4 years of full-time university faculty experience at the rank of Assistant Professor. For Professor Possess a Doctoral or terminal degree. Demonstrate continuing professional growth and success in full-time university teaching, scholarship, and service. Must have achieved distinction through significant scholarship or scholarship/research contributions to the University, higher education, or the candidate’s academic area(s) of specialization that have received substantial peer recognition. Through their professional accomplishments, demonstrate exemplary service to NSU and the profession at the national level. Possess a minimum of 5 years of full-time university experience at the rank of Associate Professor. Preferred Qualifications College-level teaching experience and/or research experience. Board Certification or appropriate credentialing.
