This role is responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, security, and reliability of business-critical database systems while partnering closely with application development, infrastructure, and support teams. The successful candidate will bring strong database administration expertise, a proactive approach to problem solving, and a commitment to operational excellence in a fast-paced environment.What You'll Do:Design, install, configure, maintain, and support PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server databases across on-premises and Azure environmentsMonitor database health and performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning and optimization solutions to improve reliability and efficiencyDevelop, maintain, and validate backup and disaster recovery processes to ensure data availability and business continuityAdminister database security, including user access, permissions, auditing, and compliance with company security standards and regulatory requirementsImplement and support high-availability solutions, including Always On Availability Groups, replication technologies, and failover capabilitiesTroubleshoot and resolve database-related issues involving performance, connectivity, availability, corruption, and application integrationsPartner with development teams to optimize database schemas, stored procedures, queries, and overall database designDevelop and maintain database architecture documentation, operational procedures, and system standardsPerform capacity planning and forecasting to support future growth and evolving business needsParticipate in the on-call rotation to provide support for critical database systems and production incidentsBasic Requirements:Degree or equivalent and typically requires 7+ years of relevant, progressive database administration experience supporting production database environmentsStrong expertise administering PostgreSQL and/or Microsoft SQL Server in enterprise environmentsExperience with database installation, configuration, performance tuning, security administration, backup and recovery, and high availability solutionsProficiency with PL/pgSQL and/or T-SQL, including query tuning and optimizationExperience troubleshooting complex database issues and implementing effective long-term solutionsExperience supporting databases hosted in cloud environments, preferably Microsoft AzureExperience using automation and scripting technologies such as PowerShell or PythonStrong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skillsAbility to work independently while partnering effectively with cross-functional technical teamsPreferred Skills / Experience:Experience supporting additional relational database management systems such as Oracle or MySQLFamiliarity with cloud database platforms and managed services, including Azure SQL Database, AWS RDS, or Google AlloyDBExperience implementing database automation and operational efficiencies through scripting and toolingExposure to database monitoring and observability solutionsExperience supporting high-availability and disaster recovery architectures in cloud and hybrid environmentsExperience working within healthcare or other regulated environmentsMcKesson complies with all applicable U.S. immigration laws and regulations.
