Job Description

PURPOSE STATEMENT:Inspects raw materials, work in process, and finished goods for conformity to product requirements. Capable of performing First Article Inspections and managing inspection records. Controls nonconforming products to ensure they are not processed further or delivered to customer. Calibrates some inspection equipment and maintains calibration records. Continually improves processes (production, support, and administrative) to meet company objectives (sales, on-time deliveries, efficiency, reduction in returns). Uses ISO 9001 criteria, root cause/corrective action, preventive action, management review, plan-do-check-act cycle (PDCA), basic quality tools, and statistical process control (SPC) to improve products and processes. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: (Minimum education, training, skills and experience)Must be capable of using a variety of inspection equipment, including calipers, micrometers, depth mics, drop indicators, pin gages, thread gages, profilometers, functional gages, optical comparator, coordinate measuring machine, and measuring table. Familiarity with machine shop, stamping, brake and welding processes is required. Must be able to read and understand prints, finish specifications, bills of material, routers, and work instructions. Must understand acceptance sampling and be able to correctly use ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 (MIL-STD-105E) or equivalent for attributes sampling. Must be able to manage or assess processes for document control, configuration control, records control, and control of nonconforming product as well as maintain related records. Must be organized and capable of maintaining inspection and related records. Must be able to calibrate precision instruments and maintain calibration database. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have basic project management skills, conflict resolution, time management and team dynamics skills. Must be able to work independently as well as within a team. Must be able to use MS Office software. ASQ's Certified Quality Inspector, Certified Quality Technician, or Certified Calibration Technician preferred, ASQ's Certified Quality Auditor, Certified Quality Engineer, Certified Process Analyst, or SME's Lean Certification preferred. JOB ELEMENTS:

1. Protect yourself, your co-workers, and your company by maintaining a safe work environment. Keep work areas clean and orderly. Immediately report to your supervisor any problems that may have an impact on safety.
2. Maintains a working knowledge of customer specifications and related industry specifications, regulations, and codes.
3. Perform visual, dimensional, and functional inspections. Verify completion of assemblies. Perform hardness testing.
4. Identify and segregate nonconforming parts in accordance with documented procedures. Maintain records of nonconforming product. Notify operator(s) of any nonconforming parts.
5. Re-inspect any reworked parts.
6. Initiate revision requests on documents (prints, specifications, bills of material, routers and/or work instructions) when processes or practices are changed to ensure documents reflect current practice. Help maintain accurate labor routings by supplying accurate set-up and run times; report errors and the need for corrections or adjustments.
7. Maintain accurate records of inspections performed. Accurately and legibly record inspection results on routers or inspection records.
8. Part-marking as required.
9. Request equipment maintenance when necessary based on poor equipment performance or nonconforming parts.
10. Record scrap material and rework. Records of scrapped material and parts are important for accurate inventory control. Also, the total value of scrap and rework is a good indicator of where effort is needed to solve problems.
11. Immediately report to lead or management any problems or shortages which may impact safety, quality, the schedule or the company.
12. Protect the company's investment and maintain a productive work environment by maintaining equipment and property provided. Report to management any problems relating to company equipment or property.
13. Perform other assignments or tasks as required.
