Builders FirstSource is seeking an experienced and motivated Yard Foreman to lead daily yard operations and support a high-performing team in a fast-paced building materials environment. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for coordinating yard activities, ensuring safe and efficient material movement, supporting customer service excellence, and maintaining an organized and productive work environment. The ideal candidate is a safety-minded leader who thrives on teamwork, enjoys developing employees, and takes pride in delivering exceptional service to customers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Team Leadership & Operations: Lead and coordinate the daily activities of yard personnel to ensure safe, efficient, and productive operations.
• Shipping, Receiving & Inventory Control: Inspect outgoing loads to ensure compliance with shipping specifications, load limits, company standards, and safety regulations. Prepare and reconcile bills of lading, packing slips, and related documentation. Monitor inventory movement and support accurate material handling practices throughout the yard.
• Employee Development: Train and mentor new yard employees on product knowledge, equipment operation, safety procedures, housekeeping standards, and company processes. Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment focused on continuous improvement and operational excellence. Communicate performance expectations, productivity goals, and operational priorities effectively.
• Customer Service: Assist customers with load building and material loading while ensuring a positive customer experience. Provide information regarding inventory availability, delivery status, and product-related inquiries. Partner with sales and operations teams to ensure customer needs are met efficiently and professionally.
• Safety & Yard Maintenance: Champion a culture of safety by ensuring compliance with all company safety policies and procedures. Conduct regular yard inspections to identify and address safety concerns. Organize and lead periodic safety meetings and encourage employee participation in safety improvement initiatives. Maintain a clean, organized, and professional yard environment, ensuring debris and scrap materials are disposed of or recycled properly.

Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications Required:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Four (4) years of experience performing and coordinating yard, warehouse, manufacturing, or material-handling activities, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience directing work crews in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience operating forklifts and material-handling equipment.

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of building materials, yard operations, product storage, and load-building practices.
• Ability to effectively plan, organize, and coordinate workflow to maximize labor and equipment efficiency.
• Advanced understanding of equipment operation and yard machinery, including maintaining required certifications.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to train, motivate, and develop employees.
• Ability to prepare schedules, reports, and operational documentation.
• Working knowledge of basic mathematics, inventory controls, and material calculations.
• Strong problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making abilities.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

• Work is performed primarily outdoors and may involve varying weather conditions, temperature fluctuations, dust, and equipment noise.
• Regular standing, walking, bending, climbing, lifting, and operating equipment are required.
• Frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 80 pounds. Must be able to safely perform physical tasks associated with yard operations, including lifting, pushing, kneeling, and climbing.
