The USC department of Facilities Planning and Management (FPM) – Lock Shop is seeking a Locksmith Team Lead to join its team. Responsibilities Serve as a Trades Specialist and lead advanced shop procedures in fire, life, safety systems; high voltage distribution systems; electrical repairs; steam distribution and boiler repairs; plumbing systems; AC systems; and Lock Shop Program. Oversee and coordinate trades personnel within a shop/team, assigning tasks, scheduling work locations, and monitoring assigned areas and activities. Coordinate work of employees, including trades, non‑trades, and contractors, providing general project management for assigned projects. Assist the supervisor with training and guidance to uphold high standards of quality, service, and customer satisfaction. Assume leadership role in the absence of the supervisor, supervising work of personnel, training, distributing work, and monitoring the team. Act as Team Administrator for the Locksmith Training Program, scheduling and assigning work for the team and coordinating with customers. Acquire and share specialized skills, monitor and document team performance, and provide feedback on performance, disciplinary actions, and promotions. Ensure timely completion of work within cost and quality constraints. Perform advanced/specialty procedures and assist in project management, compliance, regulatory testing, and preventive maintenance projects. Interpret rules, regulations, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance with city and state building codes and safety requirements. Identify and report needs for maintenance, replacement, or repair, and purchase materials and services as needed. Oversee the quality of workmanship of outside contractors and assist in the preparation and maintenance of records, reports, and correspondence. Perform other related duties as assigned. Report to duty in accordance with the university’s Emergency Operations Plan during emergencies. Qualifications Preferred Qualifications: Associate's degree, 7 years of specialized/technical training, and 10 years of Locksmith experience in a university or similar setting. Proven track record of consistently achieving exceptional outcomes, demonstrated through strong performance reviews. Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma, 5 years of specialized/technical training, extensive experience in a designated trade (mechanical, electrical, or plumbing). 4 years of experience as a trade‑related trainee may substitute for completion of a four‑year apprenticeship program. Valid, unexpired, unrestricted CA driver’s license with at least 2 years of driving history. Demonstrated project management skills and ability to resolve job‑related problems. Thorough understanding of costs, materials, estimating procedures, and trade‑related methods, materials, tools, and equipment. Knowledge of city and state building codes, OSHA rules, standard safety practices, and human resources policies and procedures. Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills, and ability to work effectively with vendors, customers, and other trade employees. Knowledge of computer billing systems. Employment Details Hourly rate range: $37.18 - $43.52. Work schedule: Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; schedules may change to accommodate business needs.
