Direct Support Professional/Floater

Job Category: Employment Community Support Services Requisition Number: DIREC001034 Posted: March 1, 2024 • Part-Time • Rate: $22 USD per hour Location Chicago, IL 60616, USA Description The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides direct services for adults residing at Ada S McKinley Community Living Houses to ensure they are healthy and safe, and learn skills enabling them to be contributing members of their home and the local community. The DSP utilizes trained techniques to assist individuals with completing personal tasks, maintaining a clean living environment, and providing assistance as needed while in the community. The DSP completes documentation of each person’s progress toward written objectives per direction from the assigned supervisor. Reporting Relationship Reports To: Residential Home Manager Essential Duties and Responsibilities Implement and document each person’s progress toward formal and informal goals and objectives as outlined in each person’s Individual Service Plan (ISP). Implement each person’s self-medication plan as outlined in the ISP. Ensure each person receives well-balanced nutritional meals. Ensure each person completes personal hygiene and grooming tasks and provide additional assistance as needed. Ensure each person is dressed appropriately according to weather conditions. Transport individuals in Ada S McKinley Community Living Services van and accompany them to necessary community outings, including shopping for groceries, personal items, recreational activities, and religious services of their choice. Maintain annual certification in First Aid and CPR. Successfully complete Ada S McKinley required training, re‑training, and any additional training as required by policies and practices. Successfully complete the Medication Administration Training and maintain ability to administer medications. Requirements High school diploma or general education equivalent. 1 to 2 years of college education is preferred. Valid driver’s license, working vehicle, car insurance, and good driving record. Minimum 18 years of age. Minimum 6 months of DSP/CNA/Caregiver/Customer service experience with interest in working with disabled individuals. Required to work 16 hours per pay period. Demonstrate cultural sensitivity to the client population served. Ability to partner with clients individually and/or in families to help mobilize resources and build resilience. Ability to coordinate effectively with other team members, agency resources and outside services to address client needs. Understanding of evidence‑informed practices, engagement strategies, boundary setting, concurrent documentation, community practice, organizational skills, motivational interviewing, and family systems. Mental and Physical Demands Employees sit, walk, and stand for prolonged periods; frequently grasp, lift, hold, or manipulate objects; occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employees use manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination when working with persons served and handling office, medical, or household equipment. Employees may assist and support up to 50 pounds with varying assistance. Required to have corrected vision and hearing within normal range and ability to operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to perform CPR and First Aid. Environmental Conditions Moderate noise level. Work performed in an office or classroom environment.
