Schedule: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, with flexibility to work beyond these hours as needed
Location: Field Operations – Various Commercial Project Sites

Job Summary

We are seeking a BAS Controls Technician to oversee the installation, startup, commissioning, and closeout of Carrier i-Vu Building Automation Systems (BAS) on assigned new construction and retrofit projects.

This role serves as the primary technical resource in the field for controls execution, ensuring systems are installed and commissioned according to contract documents, design specifications, and customer expectations.

The BAS Controls Technician works closely with project management, engineering teams, mechanical contractors, electricians, and customer representatives to coordinate system installation, perform point-to-point verification, develop and validate sequences of operation, and deliver fully functional, documented, and operator-ready building automation systems.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with field coordination, accurate documentation, and professional communication skills to support successful project delivery and customer satisfaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Project Execution and System Startup

• Install, configure, and commission Carrier i-Vu BAS hardware and software on new construction and retrofit projects.
• Perform controller setup, network configuration, device addressing, and firmware management.
• Execute system startup activities, including sensor calibration, device checkout, and functional testing.
• Complete point-to-point verification and confirm that all field devices operate according to design specifications and control intent.

2. Programming and Integration

• Develop, modify, and validate control logic and sequences of operation within Carrier i-Vu.
• Integrate building automation systems with HVAC equipment, including air handling units (AHUs), rooftop units (RTUs), chillers, boilers, pumps, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and terminal units.
• Support integration with third-party systems and communication protocols, including BACnet/IP and MS/TP.
• Troubleshoot programming, communication, and operational issues during startup and occupancy.

3. Coordination and Communication

• Coordinate field activities with project managers, low-voltage installers, electricians, mechanical contractors, and other trades.
• Communicate technical challenges, schedule impacts, and field conditions clearly and proactively.
• Participate in jobsite meetings, startup planning, and commissioning reviews as needed.
• Serve as the primary BAS technical resource during startup, commissioning, and customer acceptance.

4. Documentation and Project Closeout

• Maintain accurate field documentation, including as-built drawings, device lists, and point schedules.
• Assist in preparing and completing commissioning checklists and startup reports.
• Support project closeout documentation, including operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals, graphics verification, and system backups.
• Ensure systems are ready for inspections, functional performance testing, and customer training.

5. Customer Support and Training

• Support customer demonstrations, system walkthroughs, and operator training sessions.
• Assist with resolving punch list items and making post-startup adjustments.
• Maintain professional, solutions-oriented communication with customers and facility personnel.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• At least 3 years of experience in BAS controls installation, startup, and commissioning.
• Understanding of HVAC mechanical systems and control strategies.
• Ability to read and interpret control drawings, sequences of operation, and technical specifications.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting BAS hardware, software, and communication networks.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly with technical documentation.
• Ability to work independently in the field while remaining aligned with project objectives.
• Strong professional communication skills when working with internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Familiarity with construction project workflows and commissioning processes.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong working knowledge of Carrier i-Vu Building Automation Systems. Experience with Carrier i-Vu is strongly preferred; experience with equivalent BAS platforms may also be considered.
• Technical certifications or manufacturer-provided training.

Working Environment

Work is performed primarily in commercial, industrial, institutional, and other construction environments, including outdoor settings. Conditions may include exposure to noise, dust, fumes, odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, metal shavings, moving equipment, sharp edges, and temperature extremes.

Physical Demands

• Frequent and repetitive hand and arm movements when using tools and handling equipment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds individually and assist with team lifting of heavier items.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Frequent climbing of stairs and ladders and entering or exiting vehicles.
• Ability to climb ladders and navigate building mechanical rooms.
• Regular bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, reaching, and crouching.
• Visual acuity sufficient to operate a motor vehicle safely.
• Hearing ability sufficient to perceive common sounds in driving and work environments.
