Remote Director of Finance

Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Director of Finance for a mission-driven organization that partners with K-12 schools to provide strategic financial and operational consulting services. This is a 100% remote position for candidates located in California .

POSITION OVERVIEW:


The Director of Finance is a strategic leadership opportunity responsible for overseeing a portfolio of K-12 school clients while leading and developing a high-performing team of finance professionals. This role serves as a trusted advisor to school leaders, providing expert financial guidance, operational consulting, and strategic planning that enables clients to achieve long-term success. The ideal candidate brings both K-12 education finance experience and client-facing consulting experience , with a passion for building trusted partnerships and delivering exceptional service.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of finance professionals while overseeing a portfolio of K-12 school clients and ensuring exceptional financial consulting and service delivery.
• Serve as a strategic financial advisor by partnering with school leadership on budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, board reporting, audits, cash flow management, and long-term financial strategy.
• Build strong client relationships by providing proactive financial consulting, solving complex business challenges, and delivering exceptional customer service.
• Collaborate with internal teams to improve financial processes, implement scalable systems, and enhance operational efficiency across client engagements.
• Establish financial reporting standards, quality assurance initiatives, and best practices that promote consistency, compliance, and operational excellence.
• Support organizational growth through client onboarding, strategic initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience providing financial leadership within K-12 education along with client-facing consulting or outsourced CFO/accounting services supporting multiple organizations or school systems.
• Demonstrated success leading financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, audits, board reporting, and long-range financial planning.
• Proven ability to build trusted client relationships while leading and developing high-performing finance teams.
• Experience utilizing enterprise financial systems such as NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Workday, Vena, or similar ERP platforms.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, consulting, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple client priorities in a remote environment.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
