Job Summary:
Labor and Delivery Nurse position available in Ellsworth, Maine. This role involves providing comprehensive care across all phases of labor, postpartum, and neonatal care within a Level III nursery setting. The candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to support low-risk and high-risk patients, including those with postpartum hemorrhage, pre-eclampsia, HELLP syndrome, bilirubin management, and neonatal abstinence syndrome. The assignment offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment with a focus on patient-centered care.

Job Details:

• Schedule: Nights shift, 12 hours per shift, minimum of 36 hours per week
• Required Qualifications: Valid BLS, ACLS, NRP certifications; intermediate or advanced fetal monitoring certification; minimum of 2 years of labor and delivery experience; willingness to start ASAP; experience with all phases of labor, postpartum, and neonatal care; comfortable with high-risk conditions including postpartum hemorrhage, pre-eclampsia, HELLP, bilirubin management, and NAS babies; must complete STABLE within 30 days of start
• Preferred Qualifications: Experience with shoulder dystocia, epidural management, intrathecal spinal analgesia, nitrous oxide, C-section neonatal care, and neonatal VS, thermoregulation, hypoglycemia management
• Additional Information: The unit is staffed with at least 2 nurses overnight, with 3 nurses at times. No dedicated nursery RN; postpartum and neonatal care are combined. Traveler will be responsible for all phases of labor and postpartum, including well baby care. The environment includes low-volume deliveries averaging 200 per year, with a rooming-in model. No infectious or telemetry patients, and no on-call requirements. Orientation includes general hospital and unit-specific training. Fluency with EMR system Cerner is required. Floating to medical-surgical or emergency department tasks may be necessary, with no patient assignment during float.
