Maintenance Controller

Position Summary The Maintenance Controller is responsible for the real-time coordination, control, and oversight of all aircraft maintenance activities supporting both Part 91 and Part 135 flight operations. This role ensures aircraft airworthiness, regulatory compliance, and operational reliability while minimizing downtime and disruption to scheduled and on-demand charter operations. The Maintenance Controller serves as the primary liaison between Flight Operations, Scheduling, Maintenance Providers, and company leadership to ensure all maintenance actions comply with 14 CFR Parts 43, 91, and 135, company manuals, and approved maintenance programs. Key Responsibilities Operational Maintenance Control Monitor daily aircraft status to ensure airworthiness and dispatch reliability. Coordinate troubleshooting and corrective actions for in-service discrepancies. Provide immediate support for AOG (Aircraft on Ground) events. Track and evaluate discrepancies and determine required maintenance action in coordination with the Director of Maintenance (DOM) and authorized personnel. Coordinate maintenance planning to minimize impact to revenue charter flights and Part 91 operations. Regulatory Compliance (Part 91 & 135) Ensure all maintenance actions comply with 14 CFR Part 43, Part 91, and Part 135 requirements. Monitor aircraft inspection status, life-limited components, Airworthiness Directives, and required maintenance programs. Ensure proper MEL/CDL deferral procedures are followed and documented in accordance with the company’s FAA-approved MEL (Part 135). Verify logbook entries and return-to-service documentation prior to release of aircraft for flight. Ensure required maintenance releases are completed in accordance with Part 135 operational control requirements. Maintenance Planning & Tracking Utilize maintenance tracking systems to monitor due items and forecast upcoming inspections. Coordinate scheduled inspections and maintenance events with approved Part 145 repair stations (including in-house maintenance department) and external vendors. Assist in work scope development and review maintenance quotes for accuracy and completeness prior to approval from owners. Manage internal approval process and work with maintenance teams to ensure proper planning has been completed (parts ordered, vendors notified, as appropriate) to ensure no delays in scheduled activities. Track maintenance-related aircraft downtime and report trends to leadership. Coordination with Flight Operations Work closely with Dispatch and Scheduling to confirm aircraft availability and compliance status. Communicate aircraft limitations, MEL impacts, and operational restrictions. Provide maintenance status updates to company leadership as required. Support operational control requirements for Part 135 flights. Vendor & Repair Station Oversight Coordinate and oversee maintenance performed by Part 145 repair stations and contract vendors. Ensure vendors meet company standards and regulatory requirements. Manage AOG vendor response and parts procurement logistics. Safety & Risk Management Promote a strong safety culture across maintenance and flight operations. Identify and elevate potential regulatory or safety risks. Participate in internal audits, SMS reporting, and corrective action processes. Minimum Requirements Minimum 3–5 years of experience in aircraft maintenance, maintenance control, or technical operations. Strong working knowledge of 14 CFR Parts 43, 91, and 135. Experience interpreting aircraft maintenance manuals and technical data. Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions in time‑sensitive operational environments. Strong organizational and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate. Previous Part 135 operational experience. Experience managing MEL programs. Familiarity with maintenance tracking and other aviation specific information systems (e.g., CAMP, FlightDocs, Corridor, SierraTrax, JetInsight). Experience supporting turbine aircraft operations.
