Position Summary

The Maintenance I Tech supports the day-to-day upkeep of Housing Authority of Billings properties by completing a wide range of repairs and preventative work that keeps homes safe, functional, and ready for residents.

Key responsibilities include general plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, masonry, landscaping, and sheetrock repair; turning vacant units (cleaning, painting, interior/exterior repairs); grounds maintenance such as snow/ice removal, lawn care, and sprinkler system repair; assisting with preventative maintenance planning; and participating in an on-call rotation for emergency troubleshooting.

Required qualifications/skills:
- Valid Montana driver’s license; able to meet agency auto insurance requirements
- Bondable; acceptable criminal background check
- Proficient with hand/power tools; strong attention to detail, time management, and problem-solving
- Professional communication, customer service, and respectful work with low- income/elderly/disabled populations

A Typical Shift

Your day starts at 2415 1st Ave N, Billings, with a quick review of scheduled work orders and any overnight notes. You load supplies, drive between sites, and coordinate access so residents experience minimal disruption. Between stops, you document progress, keep your work area and vehicle organized, and communicate updates clearly. Some days are routine and planned; others require quick pivots when urgent issues come in. During your assigned on-call periods, you may respond after hours to help restore heat, water, or safety-critical systems as needed. The schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, with on-call rotation as scheduled.
