Clinical Technical Specialist – Hematology Department/Unit: Hematology. Work Shift: Day. Salary Range: $77,075.00 – $119,466.00. The Clinical Technical Specialist is a laboratory technologist who performs procedures and tests that aid in the detection and diagnosis of disease, monitor treatment progress, and provide technical assistance and consultation to co‑workers and healthcare providers. The role may serve as a qualified supervisor when the Laboratory Supervisor is absent. Responsibilities Perform testing and report results on laboratory specimens. Document daily work activities accurately, including test results, quality control, and development activities. Use applicable computer systems and maintain Laboratory Information System (LIS) to ensure timely data delivery. Provide technical advice to co‑workers, students, residents, and physicians. Develop, validate, and implement new test methodologies and procedures. Consult on test selection, interpret results, and assist clinicians with abnormal findings and pre‑analytical variation. Manage and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, perform maintenance and calibration. Contribute to quality management: participate in reviews, surveys, and quality improvement initiatives. Ensure compliance with Good Laboratory Practice, regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g., CLIA, NYSED). Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in medical technology, chemical, physical, or biological science (required); Master’s Degree preferred. Minimum of six years of clinical laboratory experience as a qualified Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Cytotechnologist, or Histotechnologist for Bachelor holders. For Master’s holders, minimum four years of laboratory experience, including at least two years in the designated specialty. Extensive management experience and ability to serve as supervisor. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to work collaboratively with nursing, physicians, and other staff. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, including statistical analysis and data interpretation. Knowledge of regulatory agencies and clinical laboratory regulations; experience with Good Laboratory Practice. Licensing Clinically licensed by the New York State Education Department (NYSED). Eligible for CLIA Clinical Laboratory Personnel requirements. Relevant certifications: Cytotechnologist (CT) or Histotechnologist (HT) as required. Physical Demands Standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, gross and fine motor coordination. Work environment includes exposure to extreme cold or heat, humidity, noise, hazards, vibration, temperature changes, and variable atmospheric conditions.
