Role Overview
This role joins an active engagement supporting a team of software engineers who are using AI tools to refactor, extend, and modernize a large legacy Java codebase. Because those engineers now produce change faster than manual testing can keep up with, we need a QA Engineer who builds the automated quality safety net that lets the team move quickly and with confidence.
This is not a manual-testing role. We're looking for someone who uses modern and AI-assisted tooling to scale testing well beyond what hands-on effort allows - converting existing manual test cases into automated coverage, closing gaps in a legacy system, and keeping pace with AI-accelerated development as a force multiplier for the engineering team.
The ideal candidate is effective across Agile, hybrid, and waterfall environments and collaborates closely with developers, product teams, and stakeholders. Depending on the workstream, testing may span backend, API, and UI layers - not always end-to-end - with the emphasis on backend and service-level quality.







Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain the engagement's automated test suite as the primary mechanism for ensuring quality
• Convert existing manual test cases into automated coverage and expand coverage across the legacy codebase
• Use AI-assisted tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude) to accelerate test creation and keep pace with AI-accelerated development
• Test across backend, API, and UI layers - with the emphasis on backend and service-level quality - including functional, regression, exploratory, and integration testing
• Enable shift-left and continuous testing within the team's CI/CD pipelines
• Log, document, and track every defect through the customer's existing Jira workflow - with documentation clear enough that developers can understand and resolve the issue without extended back-and-forth - and own each defect through to closure
• Contribute to ongoing improvements in QA processes, tooling, and overall quality strategy

Required Skills & Experience

• 6+ years in QA / quality engineering, including senior-level ownership of test strategy
• Deep, hands-on experience building test automation frameworks (Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, or similar)
• Experience using AI-assisted tooling to accelerate and scale test automation
• Experience testing legacy codebases - ideally Java-based - including converting existing manual test cases into automated coverage
• Strong experience with authentication and authorization testing
• Strong understanding of API testing methodologies (Postman, Karate, or similar)
• Hands-on experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines
• Experience testing web application UIs (secondary to backend and service-level testing)
• Proficiency with Git-based code repositories, and structured defect tracking in Jira and Confluence
• Solid understanding of SDLC and quality engineering best practices

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Accessibility testing (WCAG, Lighthouse, or similar tools)
• Performance monitoring / observability using tools such as Dynatrace or similar
• Experience testing in cloud-native or distributed environments
