Geneva College   invites applications for a tenure track position as the Director of Counseling for our CACREP approved program Master of Arts in Counseling program. The position begins August 2027 and will remain open, until filled.

Summary of Responsibilities: The program director will lead and coordinate strategic planning and curriculum development for the Department of Counseling, manage the budget and operations, evaluate faculty and staff performance, coordinate accreditation and program approval initiatives. This role also requires that the Counselor Educator be the track coordinator for the clinical mental health counseling program. The successful candidate will teach three courses per semester during the academic year, provide service to the university, community and profession, actively participate in student recruitment, support faculty growth and development opportunities. 

 

 

Essential Responsibilities: ( These essential responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.) 

1. Teach nine contact hours per semester. 

1. Adequately prepare all course materials and lessons (Note: preparation time will vary based on instructor experience in teaching that course). 

1. Provide each student with clear course expectations, evaluations, and timelines through carefully written topical outlines and approved syllabus per faculty established guidelines. 

1. Provide interesting and relevant assignments for students that demonstrate learning outcomes in a real-life setting. 

1. Suitably challenge, engage, support, and communicate with students to encourage their participation and learning while maintaining mutual value and respect. 

1. Provide timely grades to students through college software and upload mid-term and final grades by college deadlines. 

1. Respond to student questions on a timely basis. 

 

Specific Responsibilities:

1. Program Director

1. In any case, where degree programs are in professional areas controlled by accreditation, license, certification, or any other professional or educational standard, the program director must  identify clearly to its students the program’s compliance (or lack of compliance) to those standards and the extent to which the program and/or the program’s graduates meet professional standards. 

1. Determines whether a student can be accepted with provisional admittance. In addition, the program director receives and judges appeals to negative admissions decisions. 

1. Communicates work assignments to faculty employed in the program, including any program-specific conditions of employment. 

1. Assists the Assistant Director of Graduate Admissions in determining enrollment targets for the program. 

1. Participate in recruiting activities for the program including but not limited to Information Sessions, Open Houses, Campus Visits etc. Promote the program externally. 

1. Maintain an independent budget that clearly and accurately identifies all revenues and costs for the program. 

1. Clinical Mental Health Track Coordination

1. Oversee the specialty curriculum involving the Clinical Mental Health track in accordance with most recent Council for the Accreditation of Counseling Related Programs (CACREP). 

1. Participate in recruiting activities. 

1. Advise Clinical Mental Health students. 

1. Develop and maintain field placement sites for practicum and internships for the Clinical Mental Health students. 

1. Review degree candidacy applications

Job Requirements - Administrative: 

1. General:  Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed or are able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations in order to safely perform the essential responsibilities of the job. 
2. Physical:  Must be able to perform the following: talking, hearing, and seeing. Must have sufficient manual dexterity to be able to operate all office equipment including, but not limited to computers, printers, copiers, scanners, and telephones.
3. Confidentiality: Individuals must recognize that management of data, including personal information, grades, budgets, programs, and policies is necessary to the operation of the College. Qualifications:

1. Minimum: 
   1. Education/Certification: A Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Counselor Education. 
      1. Must be license eligible in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. 
   2. Experience: 
      1. Experience in the Clinical Mental Health field. 
      2. Leadership and administrative experience. 
   3. Skill/Abilities: 
      1. An aptitude for teaching and supervision 
      2. A demonstrated record of research and involvement in the counseling profession is expected. 
      3. Must have a working knowledge of CACREP accreditation. 
   4. Christian Commitment: An eligible candidate must be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of a Protestant evangelical Christian church. Preference will be given to the candidate who supports and has an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. An eligible candidate must understand and support the College’s “Foundational Concepts of Christian Education” by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work. 
2. Preferred: 
   1. Preference will be given to candidates who have teaching and leadership experience in higher education, have completed their doctorate by the time of hiring, and have expertise in the clinical mental health area(s). 
   2. Education/Certification: An earned doctorate from a CACREP accredited program. 
   3. Experience: 
      1. Previous higher education experience 
      2. Classroom and online teaching experience 
      3. Academic administrative experience 
      4. Creativity in teaching and program development is desirable. 
   4. Skill/Abilities: 
      1. A strong record of scholarly productivity.
