Registered Respiratory Therapist NICU

Primary City/State: Phoenix, Arizona | Department: Respiratory Therapy – Hospital | Work Shift: Night | Job Category: Clinical Care Job Summary This full‑time Night Shift position at Banner Estrella Medical Center involves providing specialty respiratory care to NICU patients on a 3‑day, 12‑hour schedule (6:00PM–6:30AM). The role requires an advanced practitioner to deliver respiratory therapy, pulmonary and cardiology diagnostic testing, and advanced clinical monitoring using mechanical ventilators and related equipment. Responsibilities Perform basic modalities, advanced practice respiratory therapy, and pulmonary plus cardiology diagnostic testing as prescribed. Conduct arterial and venous access procedures; assist with FDPAC and IAPB insertions, and manage invasive and non‑invasive cardiac outputs as directed. Apply and manage mechanical ventilators, collaborating with physicians or licensed independent practitioners to optimize patient comfort and expedite weaning. Assemble, maintain, troubleshoot, and adjust durable medical equipment and circuitry used in patient care. Assess patients, evaluate responses, and recommend therapeutic adjustments to physicians or practitioners; document all interventions accurately. Provide resource support to therapists and other healthcare practitioners regarding patient status, equipment, and operational issues; participate in interdisciplinary rounding. Monitor quality, appropriateness, and effectiveness of therapeutic and diagnostic procedures; contribute to policy development and training initiatives. Assume shift supervision duties and operational responsibilities for supporting business growth, process improvements, and quality and safety standards. Act as a resource and, when required, provide leadership during assigned shifts for a diverse patient population. Minimum Qualifications Associate or technical degree in Respiratory Care. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) license via NBRC; RRT required for all new hires after October1,2015. Current state license in practice. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS); Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and/or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) as applicable to specialty. In‑home‑care setting: valid driver’s license and eligibility for coverage under the company auto insurance policy. Minimum of three years of clinical experience with in‑depth knowledge of respiratory therapy techniques and equipment. Effective interpersonal skills for interfacing with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members. For registry and travel positions: minimum of one year in an acute‑care hospital setting; recent experience as an RRT Advanced Practitioner in the specialty area. Preferred Qualifications Neonatal/Pediatric Specialty (NPS) certification for NICU and PICU specialists. Additional related education and/or experience in neonatal or pediatric intensive care.
