Nutritionist Specialist- Public Health - WIC (Denton)

Nutritionist Specialist – Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program Responsibilities Determine eligibility for WIC program participation based on established guidelines. Teach nutrition and breastfeeding education classes as set forth in the State approved plans; facilitate discussions on nutrition topics. Work with mother/baby dyads experiencing breastfeeding problems to help resolve issues or reach breastfeeding goals. Assist babies with formula intolerance by identifying suitable formulas in compliance with WIC policy. Provide WIC clients with information and referrals to follow up on identified health goals and risk factors. Carry out activities outlined in local agency and state plans, including annual Nutrition Education and Breastfeeding Plans. Coordinate breastfeeding promotion and support efforts and manage breast pumps for WIC (ordering, tracking, cleaning, repairing). Counsel clients on concerns and needs; provide referrals as necessary. Distribute EBT cards and shopping lists to participants. Develop and lead nutrition, breastfeeding, and WIC outreach projects. Provide nutrition and health screenings for pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women, infants, and children under five to determine eligibility; conduct lab work as necessary. Serve as a consultant to other Public Health programs and collaborate with community health professionals to promote proper nutritional habits. Perform clerical and administrative duties such as data entry and answering phone calls related to breastfeeding or nutrition concerns. Assign and issue food packages appropriate to client needs. Maintain regular and punctual attendance. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of one year of experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Registered Dietitian preferred. Possession of a valid driver’s license; ability to obtain a State of Texas driver’s license within 90 days of employment. Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
