The departmental pay rate for this position is $86.00 per hour, plus applicable evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday differentials. Per diem providers are required to work a minimum of two shifts per month. Schedules are finalized several months in advance, providing flexibility to select from a variety of shifts, including weekend days, evenings, nights, and holidays. Depending on departmental needs and provider availability, shifts range from 6 to 12 hours in duration. This position is based on the NWH Main Campus, 2014 Washington Street, Newton, MA 02462.In this role, the Physician Assistant will provide coverage on the inpatient orthopedic service and perform orthopedic consultations in both the inpatient and Emergency Department settings under the guidance of the full-time orthopedic PA and/or orthopedic residents. Providers practice autonomously at the top of their license and are responsible for:Evaluating patients and presenting findings to attending surgeons to develop appropriate treatment plansOrdering and interpreting diagnostic testsPerforming a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including: wound care; tube and drain insertion management, and removal; suturing and suture removal; splint, brace, and cast application and removal; medication administration, including IV push medications and steroid/anesthetic injections; central venous line removal; electrocardiograms (EKGs)Conducting daily patient roundsParticipating in discharge planning and care coordinationEducating and counseling patients and their familiesAssisting with the orientation of medical students, physician assistant students, and surgical residents to the clinical environment, patient care practices, and hospital policiesParticipating in quality assurance and quality improvement initiativesWhether you are looking to supplement an existing position or maintain clinical practice with a flexible schedule, this role offers the opportunity to work alongside a highly respected orthopedic team while caring for a diverse patient population. The PA is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation.Essential Functions:Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting.Performs complete histories and physical examinations.Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries.Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.Qualifications:Education:Master's Degree Physician Assistant requiredCan this role accept experience in lieu of a degree?NoLicenses and Credentials:Physician Assistant [State License] - Generic - HR Only requiredExperience:Experience as a licensed Physician Assistant preferredWork Location:OnsitePay Range:$65.25 - $83.59/HourlyGrade:7At Mass General Brigham, we believe in recognizing and rewarding the unique value each team member brings to our organization.
