Tool Maker – Global Security Location: Kansas City National Security Campus, 14520 Botts Road, Kansas City, MO 64147. Summary As a Tool Maker, you play a crucial role in our manufacturing process, supporting a broad spectrum of projects from production to experimental engineering initiatives. Your responsibilities include the design, fabrication, assembly, and repair of a diverse range of parts, tools, and gages and fixtures. Collaborating closely with engineering teams, you'll ensure the highest standards of quality and efficiency in our creations, with a steadfast commitment to safety and precision. Duties and Responsibilities Be flexible to work across various shifts (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) as required. Plan, develop, coordinate, fabricate, assemble, repair, alter and build parts, assemblies, tools, fixtures, gages, molds, and dies. Assist in production with start‑up procedures and troubleshooting, guided by engineering or management. Use all equipment, techniques, and tools as required by the assignment. Perform related tasks as necessary in the completion of the associate’s work assignment in the Tool Maker classification. Use new technology as applicable to the basic job assignment. Verify that completed work conforms to requirement or specification. Cut new soft jaws and steps in existing soft jaws as needed. Read and interpret blueprints, design schematics, and CAD drawings. Check and top off lubricants as necessary. Perform other duties as required. Responsible for complying with applicable provisions of Article 18. Health, Safety, and Environment of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Required Credentials High School Diploma or GED. U.S. Citizenship, with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Dept of Energy "Q" level security clearance. Possession of a Tool and Die Certificate, or completion of a formal training program focusing on machining with at least two years of experience in CNC Machinery and related manufacturing equipment operation, programming, and setup. If you do not possess any certification: five years’ experience in similar capacities. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, CAD drawings, GD&T, schematics, and CAD files, with experience in MasterCAM or equivalent for CNC programming and setup. Skilled in the use of precision measurement tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gaging equipment, indicators, height gages, and other tools required to perform the job). Preferred Skills Extensive experience (eight years or more) in machining, CNC programming, assembly and inspecting complex parts within a production setting. Experience fabricating a variety of prototype parts, fixtures, and gages to extremely close tolerances, using all available manufacturing techniques, equipment, and technologies. Exceptional teamwork skills, demonstrated by a history of working efficiently within cross‑functional teams. Competence in Microsoft Office software and/or equivalent applications.
