About the Position

Job Title: Radiology Technologist Profession: Clinical Professional Specialty: Radiology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Sun/Mon/Sat Hours per Shift: 12 hours (7:00a - 7:30p) Experience: Zero to six months of related experience License: Registration from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiology (ARRT-R) Certifications: BLS through AHA Must-Have: - Working knowledge of digital radiography (DR) and/or computerized radiography (CR) equipment, techniques, and protocols - Excellent customer service and communication skills - Ability to work both independently and as part of a team - Positive attitude, self-motivated, and dependable - Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly - Adaptability to changing conditions and work responsibilities - Ethical and professional behavior at all times - Basic computer skills - Capable of wearing lead aprons for extended periods Description: Operates radiology equipment to produce radiographic images of the body for diagnostic routine purposes. Positions radiologic equipment and adjusts controls to set exposure time and distance according to specifications of the examination. Takes x-rays following established radiologic requirements and regulations to ensure patient care and safety. Retrieves radiologic orders from and inputs related data into the electronic medical record. Prepares patients for radiologic procedures. Escorts patients to the dressing and x-ray rooms, provides verbal and/or written instructions, and assists patients in positioning body parts to be radiographed. Explains procedures to patients to reduce anxiety and obtain patient cooperation. Positions patients on examining tables and adjusts positioning devices to obtain optimum views of specified areas requested by the physician. Operates specialized equipment according to protocols under limited physician supervision. Provides patient care within a broad range of healthcare needs on a decentralized basis. Moves radiograph equipment into specified positions and adjusts equipment controls to set graphic exposure factors based on knowledge of radiographic exposure techniques and protocols. Practices radiation protection techniques using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding skills, and knowledge of applicable exposure factors to minimize radiation to patients and staff. Obtains acceptable radiologic images using CR/DR techniques and protocols. Ensures operation of radiology equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements. Reports equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel. Maintains examination rooms, orders, and stocks necessary medical and radiologic supplies. Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies and protocols. Supports departmental and organizational goals through personal improvements and educational activities. Maintains professional standards in accordance with recommended practice standards. Assists with monitoring patients' levels of moderate sedation in conjunction with procedures performed. Initiates additional patient comfort measures as appropriate. Assures informed consent has been obtained prior to procedures and all questions and concerns have been addressed. Actively participates in the Universal Protocol for all invasive procedures. Demonstrates decision-making skills in planning sequence of operations and making minor decisions in a technical field. Works directly with patients and/or customers through face-to-face interaction. Collaborates with other healthcare professionals and staff.
