Medical Lab Technician - Laboratory Services

GhostRx Inc. is seeking a full-time Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to support clinical and anatomic pathology operations at the Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona — the flagship facility of the Phoenix VA Health Care System and the primary VA referral center for tens of thousands of enrolled veterans across central and northern Arizona. As an MLT on the GhostRx team, you will work under the direction of credentialed Medical Technologists and Clinical Laboratory Scientists to perform a broad scope of high-complexity diagnostic testing across chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology, transfusion medicine, and immunohematology. Your work directly informs clinical decision-making for veterans receiving primary care, inpatient acute care, surgical services, oncology treatment, and emergency care throughout the facility. Day-to-day, you will accession and process specimens, operate and troubleshoot automated analyzers, perform calibration and quality control, review and verify results, document accurately in the Laboratory Information System (LIS), and collaborate with the pathology, nursing, and provider teams to deliver timely, accurate results that veterans depend on. Qualification and Requirements Associate’s degree or higher in Medical Laboratory Technology from a NAACLS-accredited program, or equivalent military MLT training and experience Current MLT certification by ASCP-BOC or AMT (or completion of a medical laboratory technician practice program with eligibility for certification) Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory experience within the last 3 years strongly preferred Generalist competency across chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology, and blood bank/transfusion medicine Working knowledge of automated analyzers and the ability to perform calibration, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance Proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and electronic medical record (EMR) documentation Familiarity with CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, AABB, and OSHA laboratory standards Demonstrated ability to perform high-complexity testing accurately and recognize, flag, and report critical or abnormal values Effective verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with pathologists, technologists, nurses, and providers U.S. citizenship required (per VA contract terms); must have resided in the United States continuously for the previous 3 years Must successfully pass a federal background investigation, pre-employment drug screen, and pre-employment physical examination Required to receive annual seasonal influenza vaccination per VA HCP policy (or approved medical/religious exemption) BLS certification (American Heart Association) preferred Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, twist, and reach throughout the shift; lift up to 50 lbs floor to waist; lift 20 lbs overhead; carry up to 40 lbs; push/pull with 30 lbs of force Responsibilities Perform high-complexity analytical testing on blood, urine, body fluids, and tissue specimens across chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology, and transfusion medicine as requested by a Medical Technologist Operate, calibrate, and perform preventive maintenance on automated clinical analyzers and laboratory instruments Perform daily quality control on instruments and reagents and document results per established protocols Troubleshoot instrument issues and elevate complex problems to senior staff when appropriate Accession, label, and process incoming specimens following identification and chain-of-custody standards Prepare reagents, standards, and controls for testing as directed; monitor inventory and assist with ordering Review and verify test results for accuracy, flagging critical or abnormal values for clinician follow-up Document all testing activity, QC, and maintenance in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) using approved terminology Adhere to CLIA, CAP, AABB, OSHA, and VA safety and infection-control standards at all times Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked work environment Support phlebotomy or specimen collection activities as needed in departments where applicable Participate in proficiency testing, competency assessments, validation studies, and continuing education Assist with the orientation and training of new staff, students, and graduate technologists as assigned Protect veteran patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and VA privacy policies Complete other duties as assigned that relate to the responsibilities of a Medical Laboratory Technician #J-18808-Ljbffr
