SALES MANAGER – PERMIAN BASIN

My client is a long-established manufacturer of downhole completion and service equipment for the oil and gas industry. With over 40 years in business, they've designed and manufactured packers, fishing tools, and specialized downhole systems built to solve real problems at the wellsite.

They are not a commodity supplier.

Their completion packer technology, including our HPHT retrievable 10K packer, is differentiated in the market because it was designed by people who spent their careers in the field, not behind a desk. The engineering team understands what operators and engineers actually deal with at the wellsite, and their products reflect that.

HQ'd in Louisiana, with operations supporting customers across the Haynesville, Eagle Ford, and West Texas, they are a financially secure, family-owned business with a strong reputation for responsiveness, product quality, and customer support.

They are now aggressively expanding our presence in the Permian Basin.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Permian is the company’s largest long-term growth priority.

Over the past several years, they have invested heavily in:

  • Manufacturing capacity
  • Supply chain infrastructure
  • Inventory availability
  • Product development
  • West Texas operational support

They already have a facility in Monahans. They already have established customers. They have products that compete extremely well in the market from both a technical and pricing standpoint ready for distribution.

What they need now is the right commercial leader to help accelerate and expand their footprint across the basin.

This is not a role focused on inheriting a large book of business and maintaining accounts.

This is an opportunity to help build something meaningful in one of the most relationship-driven markets in the industry.

WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS

My client is also highly forward-looking as an organization. Leadership is actively planning around where customers’ operational and technical needs are going, not just where they are today. Obtaining orders for their products is the primary role of the sales organization, but there is also another important role to this position.

The person in this position will serve as the voice of the customer internally, staying close to operators and engineers, understanding upcoming needs, identifying future opportunities, and communicating those insights back into the organization so the company can continue evolving alongside the market.

The completion packer business is highly relationship-driven.

The operators, engineers, and decision-makers in West Texas tend to know each other well, and trust matters. Winning business often comes down to credibility, responsiveness, technical understanding, and long-term relationships developed over time.

My client has the operational infrastructure and product line to compete aggressively in the Permian. The missing piece is someone who can consistently get the company in front of the right people, open doors, build trust, and establish long-term customer relationships.

The person in this role will play a direct part in helping shape my client's growth strategy in West Texas over the next several years.

THE ROLE

Title: Sales Manager, Permian Basin

Location: West, TX

Reporting Structure: Reports directly to Head of Sales

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop relationships with completion engineers, production engineers, and operational decision-makers across the Permian Basin
  • Open and expand customer accounts with major operators and key independents
  • Represent my client's completion packer and downhole tool solutions in both office and field environments
  • Work closely with engineering and operations teams to align customer demand, forecasting, and inventory planning
  • Identify market opportunities and help shape regional growth strategy
  • Support future expansion of field sales and operational presence as the business grows
  • Serve as the voice of the customer internally

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

Success in year one is expected to include:

  • Establishing strong market presence
  • Developing trusted customer relationships
  • Opening 3-4 meaningful operator accounts
  • Creating recurring order flow and long-term growth opportunities

The company believes the Permian Basin has the potential to become its largest revenue-producing region within the next 3–5 years.

This role is foundational to that effort.

THE IDEAL BACKGROUND

The ideal candidate will likely have:

  • Experience selling downhole completion tools, packers, fishing tools, or related oilfield products/services
  • Existing relationships within the Permian Basin operator community
  • Ability to communicate effectively with engineers and field personnel
  • Strong commercial instincts and proven business development ability
  • Experience opening accounts, not simply managing inherited business
  • It is important that this person know that developing new customer relationships in this market is not easy, especially at the operator level.
  • This role requires someone who is highly self-motivated, comfortable operating independently, and willing to stay persistent through long sales cycles, relationship-building, and the inevitable resistance that comes with opening new doors.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and comfort operating independently.
  • Technical curiosity and willingness to understand product applications deeply.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Base Salary: Six-figure base salary offering

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This role is designed for someone who operates well independently.

The position will involve a combination of:

  • Customer meetings
  • Office visits
  • Field interaction
  • Travel throughout West Texas and surrounding regions
  • Coordination with leadership and operational teams

The role is not heavily corporate or process-driven. The company values accountability, responsiveness, initiative, and professionalism.

INTERVIEW PROCESS

The process may include:

  1. Initial recruiter screening
  2. Leadership conversations with COO and Head of Sales
  3. In-person meeting in West Texas Louisiana
  4. Final selection process
