Sr. Test & Validation Engineer - HV safety

Job Description Member of the Test & Validation team in the Powertrain department at our Santa Clara, CA facility. Lead the testing and documentation of High‑Voltage (HV) safety functions, including HV power‑up/down, pre‑charge/active‑discharge procedures, crash shut‑down, insulation management, interlocks, vehicle service mode, driver information, fault management, and failsafe modes. Define test plans, generate test cases, execute tests, and produce reports according to HV safety requirements at system and vehicle levels. Support crash vehicle instrumentation, crash testing, and post‑crash safety checks. Coordinate test strategy with Powertrain colleagues in Nanjing, China. Manage the HV safety release process, including documentation and review of electrical safety test reports from component suppliers. Conduct failure analysis, track issue resolution, and develop bug‑fix testing plans. Implement electrical safety best practices and national standards, generating risk assessments, procedures, and checklists for lab and vehicle operations. Collaborate with powertrain lab engineers to define configurations, test procedures, and automation for system and vehicle level testing labs. Work with component owners (Battery, E‑Motor, Charger, DCDC, Climate Unit, Connectivity, UI/UX) and the VCU software development team to define testing strategies that comply with electrical safety standards. Qualifications BA or Master’s degree in Engineering (electrical, automotive, or related field). Proven expertise in HV safety functions and powertrain test & validation. Experience defining test plans, executing tests, and producing detailed reports. Strong knowledge of safety standards, risk assessment, and failure analysis. Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across multiple teams. Experience with automation and configuration of testing laboratories is a plus.
