Health Unit Coordinator Medical ICU

Primary City/State: Mesa, Arizona Department Name: Medical ICU-3C Work Shift: Night (6pm - 6:30am, 3‑12 hour shifts, rotating weekends and holidays) Job Category: Administrative Services Pay: $1/hour weekend differential and 18% night shift differential. Position Summary This position is responsible for a variety of administrative support functions and customer service for an assigned patient care area, promoting an organized, efficient delivery of care to patients. The role facilitates communication between physicians, nurses, and patients, handles consults, and acts as a liaison with all internal departments and external contacts. Core Functions Perform receptionist/clerical duties to support department flow and resolve customer problems. Process patient admissions, record bed assignments, create face sheets and patient labels, and order outside records. Maintain complete patient records, including admissions, transfers, discharges, progress notes, and consent forms; ensure proper filing and quality checks. Enter pending discharges, coordinate patient appointments for procedures, and process discharges. Maintain office, dietary, and medical supplies; complete requisition and reconcile orders upon delivery. Monitor and track electronic equipment such as patient ID scanners and laptop computers; ensure they are accounted for and functional. Work under local supervision, focusing on customer service in a fast‑paced, sometimes stressful environment; interact with staff and external customers. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma, GED, or equivalent working knowledge. One year of medical clerical experience, preferably in a hospital or physician office setting, or prior customer service experience. Excellent organizational, human relations, and communication skills. Working knowledge of medical terminology and computer literacy; proficiency with commonly used office software and keyboarding skills. For candidates working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral, BUMG, BUMCT, or BUMCS in a behavioral health clinical setting serving children, an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and an Arizona Criminal History Affidavit are required at hire and must be maintained throughout employment. Preferred Qualifications Successful completion of an approved unit secretary program and BLS certification. Additional related education and/or experience.
