Nursing House-Wide Supervisor Part Time Nights

Position Summary At Stony Brook Medicine, under the direction of the Lead Administrative Nursing Supervisor, this Nursing House‑Wide Supervisor—Part Time Nights—oversees and manages clinical staff, including nursing, social work, and counseling staff on the off shift to ensure standards of compassionate, person‑centered care are maintained. The supervisor serves as the onsite Administrator‑On‑Duty, providing leadership, guidance, mentorship, and support for safe and smooth clinical operations. Responsibilities Supervise nursing, social work, and counseling staff during evening, weekend, and holiday shifts. Plan and manage staffing schedules, ensuring adequate coverage and appropriate skill mix. Evaluate staff performance, provide feedback, conduct performance reviews and competencies. Mentor, train, and provide continuous education to nursing staff. Ensure clinical care meets established standards and protocols (quality assurance). Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff (patient safety). Facilitate effective communication between patients, families, clinical staff, and providers; resolve complaints. Participate in development and implementation of patient care, behavior support, and therapeutic intervention plans. Serve as a point of contact between clinical staff and hospital administration. Ensure adherence to policies and procedures. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals for coordinated patient care. Required Experience & Qualifications Graduated from an accredited School of Nursing. Licensed and registered to practice nursing in New York State. Baccalaureate in Nursing (or five years of acute‑care nursing experience). Minimum two years of progressive leadership experience in an acute‑care facility. Successful completion of an ACLS Program within six months of employment. Preferred Experience & Qualifications Critical care experience. Nursing specialty certification. Previous Administrator‑On‑Call experience. Master’s degree in Nursing or a health‑related field. Physical Demands Stand, walk, and move quickly for extended periods, especially during emergencies. Assist with patient transfers, repositioning, and physical interventions if needed. Lift and/or transfer patients, including those who may be physically aggressive or uncooperative, using safe techniques and equipment. Handle equipment and supplies needed for emergency care. React quickly to situations involving restraint, agitation, or aggression. Provide physical support in restraining or de‑escalating patients when necessary. Use medical instruments, perform assessments, administer medications, and manage equipment with precision. Document patient information, administer injections, and manipulate medical equipment. Maintain physical and mental alertness during long shifts, including night shifts and weekends. Manage high‑stress situations with clear decision‑making and physical capability. Respond quickly and take rapid action, including using restraint procedures, to stabilize patients in crisis. Pre‑Employment Conditions Complete a pre‑employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance. Complete an electronic reference check with a minimum of three professional references. Successfully complete a four‑panel drug screen. Meet regulatory screening requirements. Provide proof of required New York State license(s) or certificate(s). Pay Range The starting salary range for this position is based on relevant experience and includes a 14% night shift differential.
