Team Lead

$21.5 - $24 per hour

At In Flight, Inc., we empower people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to reach for hopes and dreams and support a meaningful quality of life $21.50 - $24.00 Increases based on: Experience - $0.25–$1.00 Education - $0.50–$1.50 Nature of Work The Team Leader is responsible for directly assisting our individuals with all activities associated with daily living and providing them with the best quality of life as they are able to experience. This is accomplished by providing a safe, clean, orderly and predictable environment in the least restrictive setting, and enabling our individuals to experience patterns of a normal life. The Team Leader works closely with the Residential Coordinator in planning and managing the daily routine for the shift. Team Leader Responsibilities Lead and motivate a shift of staff members to perform at their best. Delegate duties and oversee other team members, including monitoring performance, time and attendance, and assisting with orientation and training. Apply knowledge from required training in Medication Administration, Crisis Intervention and Prevention (SCIP‑R), First Aid, CPR and other in‑service training. Ensure menus are created and staff prepare food as directed by the dietician, Residential Coordinator or Nurse. Maintain a clean, hygienic, orderly and safe residence, identifying and rectifying cleanliness and safety concerns. Notify appropriate personnel of significant events (emergencies, incidents, maintenance and safety needs) orally or in writing. Monitor and ensure quality care by developing activity schedules and assigning staff to specific activities and duties. Assist with evaluation of staff work performance. Assist with orientation, training and maintaining positive morale among staff. Contribute to residence upkeep through scheduled cleaning and maintenance chores. Encourage individual independence throughout daily routines and provide opportunities for choice. Engage individuals in recreation, social and skill‑building interactions during the shift. Create and post activity and goal schedules and ensure they are followed. Complete all required paperwork and document in goal data books, logs and medication records in a timely manner. Ensure all data collection is documented before the end of shift. Adhere to the agency’s mission and core values of honesty, integrity and fairness, ensuring other DSPs do the same. Display a professional and cooperative attitude when interacting with individuals, family, guardians, community members and day program staff. Communicate concerns to the Residential Coordinator or administrator‑on‑call in a timely manner. DSP Duties Perform duties as directed by the Residential Coordinator or administration. Provide direct support services, including food, clothing, hygiene and other activities of daily living. Implement all formal and informal goals, behavior plans and services during daily routines. Transport or accompany individuals to appointments or scheduled activities. Develop and maintain supportive yet normalizing relationships with all individuals. Remain awake and alert for the duration of the scheduled shift. Follow the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals Code of Ethics. Follow policy and procedures for incidents and alleged abuse reporting. Job Requirements Strong leadership ability and positive role modeling. Ability to give directives and follow up to ensure task completion. Effective oral, written and basic math skills in English. Physical ability to lift individuals, assist during emergencies and perform physical interventions during behavioral outbursts. Work independently and use common sense. Work positively within a team environment. Attend all required annual training courses within the allowable timeframe. Become and maintain medication certification; lack of certification may result in transfer, affecting hours, location and pay. Become and maintain van certification; lack of certification may result in transfer, affecting hours, location and pay. Adhere to Agency Attendance Policy to ensure coverage. Learn and follow established policies and procedures. Work extra hours, including overnight coverage, when required to maintain minimum staff coverage. Follow all safety procedures set by the Agency. Minimum Qualifications The Team Leader should have a minimum of a high school diploma. An associate degree and a minimum of one year of experience working with the developmentally disabled are preferred. Consideration will be given to those with less experience who can clearly demonstrate the ability to perform job responsibilities. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Valid NYS driver license with a clean driving record acceptable to the insurer. Successful completion of training courses, including crisis intervention, medication administration, CPR/First Aid, driver certification and behavior management upon hire and as required. Physical Demands The physical demands include standing and walking for extended periods, occasionally sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling and lifting up to 50 lbs. Reasonable accommodation may be provided. Conditions of Employment Comply with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, rules, regulations and standards of conduct. Pass all NYS Justice Center Background Check Requirements and physical requirements. Report any suspected violations of the law to the Human Resources Director.
