Sr. Software Engineer ManagerWe are seeking an experienced and driven Sr. Software Engineer Manager to lead a high-performing team of software engineers and QA professionals. In this role, you will own delivery, quality, and the growth of your team while partnering closely with product and technology leadership to build the award-winning products we offer our clients. Our Engineering Managers are hands-on technical leaders who bring both strategic vision and the willingness to dig into the details alongside their team.What You'll DoLead the day-to-day execution and operations of an engineering team, ensuring high-quality delivery, strong ownership, and predictable outcomesManage and support team members through all aspects of people leadership, including performance management, career development, and feedbackPartner closely with Product and Design to define priorities, shape roadmaps, and deliver customer-centric solutions aligned to business goalsOwn delivery outcomes for your team—balancing speed, quality, and sustainability while managing dependencies and risksCoach and develop engineers and technical leads, helping them grow both technically and professionallyProvide technical leadership by guiding architectural decisions, promoting sound engineering practices, and supporting design discussions across services and systemsFoster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence within the teamCollaborate with peer engineering managers and cross-functional stakeholders to align on priorities and drive cohesive, scalable solutionsChampion modern engineering practices, including cloud-native development, observability, and automated testingEnsure systems are reliable, scalable, and well-instrumented, with strong focus on performance and operational visibilitySupport and evolve team processes, including Agile ceremonies, planning, and delivery practicesEmpower Lead Engineers to mentor others, scale knowledge, and elevate technical execution across the teamWhat You'll Need10+ years of experience building and delivering software, with strong background in modern web applications and distributed systems5+ years of experience leading engineering teams, including direct people management responsibilitiesDeep experience with cloud-native architectures and building scalable, resilient servicesStrong experience with backend and API-driven systems (e.g., REST, GraphQL, event-driven architectures)Experience working with modern frontend technologies (e.g., TypeScript-based frameworks)Hands-on experience with technologies such as Java/Spring, relational databases (e.g., Postgres), and distributed systems tools (e.g., Kafka, Redis)Experience deploying and operating applications in cloud environments (preferably AWS), including containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)Familiarity with infrastructure as code and deployment tooling (e.g., Helm, Argo, Ansible)Experience with observability and monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry)Strong understanding of CI/CD practices and automated testing strategiesExcellent communication skills with the ability to influence across technical and non-technical stakeholdersAbility to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment and drive clarity amid ambiguityProven ability to hire, grow, and retain high-performing engineering teamsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experiencePreferred SkillsExperience building and operating SaaS platforms at scaleFamiliarity with secure application design, identity, and access management (e.g., Okta)Experience with modern UI frameworks (Vue.js preferred)Background in healthcare technology, data platforms, or revenue cycle managementExperience leading teams working with event-driven architectures and microservicesAbout WaystarThrough a smart platform and better experience, Waystar helps providers simplify healthcare payments and yield powerful results throughout the complete revenue cycle.Waystar's healthcare payments platform combines innovative, cloud-based technology, robust data, and unparalleled client support to streamline workflows and improve financials so providers can focus on what matters most: their patients and communities.
