You'll spend half your day facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops covering public speaking, focus, and how to give and receive meaningful feedback. The other half, you work with students individually or in small groups, analyzing their progress via Coachbot analytics, and driving each one toward 100% completion of their weekly app goals. You won't be reading from a script - workshops provide a foundation, but top performers in this role customize them and create new ones when needed. A successful quarter means every student in your cohort completes their weekly app goals, passes the Test2Pass for all life-skills workshops, and 90%+ report they love you. Fall short on any of these three, and you've missed the mark. In your first year you'll master the playbook; as you demonstrate your ability to maintain standards, opportunities open to become a Lead Guide, where you mentor new hires while continuing to work directly with students. If you prefer traditional teaching, want a pre-packaged curriculum, or think warmth and rigorous standards can't coexist, look elsewhere. What You Will Be Doing Facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops for K-8 cohorts covering public speaking, focus, feedback, and other essential skills, customizing the playbook and creating new sessions when you identify a need Conducting daily individual and small-group motivation sessions that drive every student to 100% completion of their weekly app goals, leveraging Coachbot analytics, Alpha's incentive structures (school currency, leaderboards), and your relationship with each student to overcome resistance Delivering the Test2Pass (Alpha's mastery-based assessment) for each life skill, and supporting students who don't pass until they achieve mastery Adjusting your coaching approach across a broad age spectrum, from kindergarteners who require high energy and physical activity to 8th graders who need direct communication and accountability Serving as the adult who maintains standards and the adult students want to confide in; warmth gives you permission to push, and pushing demonstrates your confidence in their potential What You Won’t Be Doing Teaching from a whiteboard; academic content is delivered through the apps, not by you Creating curriculum from the ground up; you animate a proven playbook through energy and narrative Passively monitoring students at computers; motivation here is dynamic, personal, and persistent Reducing a weekly target to help a student reach it; when a student falls behind, the solution is to support the student, not adjust the goal Grading assignments, conducting standardized test preparation, or handling parent communications; Campus Leads manage parent-facing responsibilities, and the rest simply don't exist in this model Associate Key Responsibilities Ensure every student in your K-8 cohort completes their weekly learning goals, achieves mastery of each life skill, and finishes the year saying they loved you. Basic Requirements Willing to work in-person at an Alpha campus in Scottsdale (Phoenix), AZ; Oklahoma City, OK; Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Austin, TX; Brownsville, TX; Fort Worth, TX; Houston, TX (Central, South, or The Woodlands); Park City, UT - relocation support available Bachelor's degree in any subject At least 3 years working directly with K-8 students (classroom teaching, coaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or youth program leadership) A concrete example you can articulate of motivating a K-8 student toward a challenging goal: the goal itself, your actions, and the result Comfort allowing AI to manage instructional content while you concentrate on motivation and life-skills coaching Daily use of generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude) Legal authorization to work in the US without visa sponsorship (or in Canada for the Toronto campus) Nice-to-have Requirements Background in youth sports coaching, debate, camp leadership, theater, or after-school programs where you held direct responsibility for motivating children toward specific objectives History of personal high achievement (academic, athletic, or professional), such that holding others to rigorous standards is habitual, not performative Narrative skills and stage presence strong enough to engage a room of 12-year-olds for an hour without needing to raise your voice Demonstrated success converting disengaged or reluctant students into engaged participants About Alpha Join the team building school around student growth Alpha reimagines the school day around faster learning, stronger mentorship, and more time for students to build real-world skills. The position is immediately available and requires entering into an independent contractor agreement with Crossover as a Contractor of Record.
