SENIOR ACCOUNTANT - GENERAL LEDGER

General Description The purpose of this position is to maintain and prepare complex financial records. Perform complex, technical work involving the preparation and maintenance of fiscal and/or statistical records and completes related work as required. The Sr. Accountant – GL works under limited supervision and reports major activities through periodic meetings. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate accounting personnel. Reports to the Finance Director. Essential Functions The Accounting function is responsible for the Town’s overall financial reporting, recordkeeping, and fiscal compliance. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Verifies and reconciles financial data to assure accuracy and completeness of information Weekly recording and reconciling financial transactions within the general ledger. Assist the Finance Director with preparation of the budget and departmental budget requests and development of the Annual budget manual. Budget monitoring by department – transfers and journal entries. Managing accounts payable and accounts receivable entries. Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports. Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and internal controls. Supporting internal and external audits and financial reviews. Completing year-end closing processes for the Town of Dumfries, to include performing FMS closeouts. Maintains ledgers, reports and other financial documentation; review for technical defects and errors including, but not limited to, quarterly financial reports and payroll reports.
