Transportation Operations Technician I

Overview The Agency of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Operations Technician I. This position is responsible for various tasks related to highway maintenance, such as repairing guardrails, cutting trees/brush, patching roads, picking litter, ditching, and more. In the winter months, this position will also assist with plowing and salting. Overtime may be required. This position is eligible for a sign‑on and retention bonus of up to $2000. Environmental Factors Duties require working in extreme outdoor weather conditions. Employees may be required to report outside of their usual area/work schedule and must be reachable by phone. Dangers are present near heavy equipment, hazardous materials, roadside litter, traffic, and emergencies such as flood, ice, snow, and hazardous materials. Random drug and alcohol testing is required prior to operation of vehicles or equipment. Considerable overtime is required, especially in winter. Minimum Qualifications No education or experience required. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Preferred Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Special Requirements A valid driver's license is required. Incumbent must live within reasonable proximity of assigned workstation. Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required for the successful completion of original probation. Incumbent must complete all VTTC required coursework within six (6) months or be enrolled.
