These states require licensure, often through the state's health or radiologic board. Most align their requirements with ARRT or require passing a state exam. California - Requires state certification through CDPH-RHB. Texas - Requires licensure through the Texas Medical Board. Florida - Requires licensure through the Florida Department of Health. New York - Requires licensing through NYS Department of Health. Massachusetts - Requires licensure for MRI technologists. New Jersey - Requires licensing through the NJ Department of Environmental Protection. Oregon - Requires licensure through Oregon Board of Medical Imaging. West Virginia, Arkansas, Kentucky, Maine, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee - Require state licenses and typically accept ARRT credentials. States That Do Not Require Licensure:
These states do not require state-level licensure, but employers often require ARRT or equivalent certification: Alabama Alaska Colorado Delaware Georgia Idaho Michigan Missouri Nebraska Pennsylvania South Dakota Washington Wisconsin Wyoming ⚠ Note: Even in states without licensure requirements, most employers require ARRT or ARMRIT certification.
