Chair, Department of Surgery

the client is seeking a Chair for the Department of Surgery. The Chair reports to the Dean of the School of Medicine and is responsible for effective management of the department’s administrative and operational processes, including comprehensive clinical services while supporting the department’s teaching, educational, and research missions. The Chair will build on prior leadership to advance the department’s academic and clinical success and help expand its national and international reputation. The role includes strategic planning, faculty recruitment and management, promotion of teamwork, development of educational and training programs, support of research initiatives, oversight of patient care standards, facilities management, financial affairs, and community engagement. The department includes multiple surgical divisions and supports regional, national, and international academic engagement through lectures and research presentations. Eligibility includes an MD, MD/PhD degree (or equivalent) and board certification through the American Board of Surgery. The Chair must be eligible for, or currently hold, a medical license in the state of California and meet requirements for appointment at the rank of Professor. The ideal candidate is expected to demonstrate strong leadership skills and vision for a multi-disciplinary academic and clinical department, along with a strong scholarly record supported by high-quality peer-reviewed publications and a demonstrated ability to collaborate collegially in a diverse academic and clinical environment.
