As the oldest correctional facility in the state, it has a long history and operates on a secured 24-acre campus with ten manned towers. The prison grounds also include a level-two facility with a capacity of 385 incarcerated adult males. Staff maintain a clean, orderly environment while prioritizing safety and security. Programs available to incarcerated individuals support personal development and re-entry preparation where applicable. The facility provides a structured setting for individuals with long sentences or those convicted of violent offenses.Role OverviewAs a Maintenance Technician, you'll join a full-service maintenance team at the Indiana State Prison, supporting daily repair and preventive maintenance in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and grounds. This Monday–Friday role offers steady hours, strong safety practices, and hands-on experience. We provide training for motivated individuals starting their maintenance career, with a clear path for advancement into supervisory and leadership roles (Maintenance Technician ? Maintenance Supervisor ? Physical Plant Director). This highlights the full value of your benefits package, beyond your take-home pay.A Day in the LifeThe essential functions of this role are as follows:Oversee and participate in preventive maintenance and repairs of facilitiesMaintain accountability of materials, tools, equipment, and vehiclesEnsure compliance, of self and assigned personnel, with all appropriate protective and safety requirementsRecruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional developmentSet expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employeesEnsure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper proceduresWorkday attendance at assigned worksite(s) is an essential function of this positionWhat You'll Need for SuccessIndividuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:Knowledge of electrical systems, carpentry, plumbing and painting tradesAbility to plan, schedule and supervise job sitesAbility to fill in for other foreman to ensure the operation of the departmentAbility to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints and other remediation plans and documentsThorough knowledge of standard practices, processes, materials, procedures, and the ability to use tools and equipment of the various trades, such as carpentry, plumbing and electricalThorough knowledge of the OSHA standards, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), occupational hazards and safety precautions required of the various trade areasAbility to plan and estimate project proposals in terms of equipment, man hours and costsAbility to endure exposure to inclement weatherAbility to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflowAbility to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsetsThis role must satisfy the following requirements to continue employment:Must have and maintain a valid Driver's LicenseA degree is not requiredIndividuals should have the ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodationSupervisory Responsibilities/Direct ReportsThis role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
