What You’ll Do Lead a survey crew to complete control, topographic, boundary, construction layout, and utility location surveys. Operate advanced survey instruments including robotic total stations, automatic levels, data collectors, laser scanners, GPS, and other standard equipment to accurately gather field data. Interpret construction plans, perform necessary field calculations, and execute precise construction layout. Maintain clear, detailed, and accurate field notes. Efficiently upload and download survey data files and photographs. Ensure the proper maintenance and operation of all field survey equipment, vehicles, and supplies. Conduct all work with a strong commitment to safety, adhering to the Health and Safety Plan. Represent DLZ and its core values professionally in all interactions. Mentor and coach junior field crew members, fostering their growth. Effectively manage field work scope and schedules. Perform other duties as assigned. What You’ll Bring High School Graduate or equivalent (required); Associate's degree or higher in Surveying & Mapping or Civil Engineering Technology (preferred). 3 to 5 years of progressive experience as a Survey Party Chief. Working knowledge of Trimble survey equipment and Trimble Business Center (preferred). Experience with construction layout and/or utility corridor projects (preferred but not required). Strong ability to perform basic mathematical and trigonometric calculations and understand error propagation in field surveys. Demonstrated aptitude for sound independent decision‑making and providing clear direction to crew members. Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with clients, property owners, and coworkers. Ability to obtain OSHA 30 Hour Construction Safety Certification. Availability for overtime and out‑of‑town travel with provided per diem. Willingness to work in various weather conditions. Valid driver's license along with the ability to pass a background check, an MVR check, and a drug test.
