Division Chief, General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (Children’s) and Emory University School of Medicine (Emory) are seeking a visionary and collaborative physician leader to serve as Division Chief, General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. The Division Chief will lead a dynamic team of faculty dedicated to excellent and innovative clinical care, education, research, and advocacy for underserved communities. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to multi-dimensional growth at Children’s and Emory related to general pediatrics and adolescent medicine initiatives and priorities reflecting all three of our missions of excellent clinical care, education, and discovery. This leader will work closely with Children’s community primary pediatric care network, inclusive of our clinically integrated network, The Children’s Care Network (TCCN). Principal duties and responsibilities: Administrative Become established as a trusted, effective, and highly collaborative leader among division faculty and staff as well as administrative leaders at Children’s and Emory. Codify a divisional leadership team that taps into the expertise and enthusiasm of current faculty with respect to clinical services, education, research, and advocacy. Refine the Division’s vision and strategies for primary care, inpatient pediatric medicine at Hughes Spaulding, and adolescent medicine to contribute to and align with both Children’s and Emory at Grady, balancing missions of patient care, research, and teaching. Clinical Care Oversee and advance the delivery of culturally informed care across the Division, including two-generation approaches and behavioral health integration working closely with the Division of Behavioral and Mental Health. Support expansion of primary care access, including through School Based Health Centers and Adolescent Medicine, and consider development of specialized clinics (e.g., foster care or dedicated clinics for patients with medical and social complexity) to meet the needs of vulnerable populations and the community. Partner with clinical directors and hospital administrators to evaluate clinical operation models, develop and assess new models of care, and provide recommendations to improve system performance, quality, and efficiency as well as family experiences. Support the collegial, cohesive, and inclusive environment within the division to ensure the continued effective recruitment of outstanding residents and attending physicians. Education and Faculty Development Work closely with the Vice Chair of Education/Chief Teaching Officer and educational leadership for the medical student clerkship, pediatric residency, and fellowship to ensure a primary care curriculum that is updated regularly to reflect emerging evidence and reflects LCME/ACGME requirements and can be used throughout the Emory and Children’s system for high-quality education. Ensure faculty development and mentorship, leveraging the Division’s broad expertise to align professional growth opportunities with the needs of children and the community and strategic priorities and initiatives within Children’s and Emory. Nurture the culture of teaching and learning at Children’s and Emory, grounded in a model that emphasizes health equity and the care of "the whole child" within the context of their family and community. Broaden ambulatory training for residents and medical students across diverse practice settings (academic sites, private practices, FQHCs, SBHCs) with complementary experiences (acute care within medical homes, lactation, sports medicine, obesity management, medically complex care). Partner with operational teams to improve the quality and experience for learners and patients in unique training environments that include multiple medical schools, multiple levels of learners, and diverse and multilingual patient demographics. Research Work with the Vice Chair of Research/Chief Research Officer to support scholarly activity and innovation in general pediatrics and adolescent medicine including administrative support and mentorship for research. Support scholarship within the division and through community partnerships and research synergies, including in areas such as new models of care, health equity, population health, medical education, health services research, quality improvement, educational scholarship, and care of underserved populations; foster interdisciplinary collaborations with other divisions, departments, and medical schools. Enhance the division’s contribution to population health research, the Clinically Integrated Network (CIN), health systems science, and implementation science, including efforts to improve outcomes for individual patients and at the state level. Candidate qualifications: Education Doctor of Medicine (MD/DO) from an accredited school of medicine. Board Certification in Pediatrics (and/or Adolescent Medicine) and eligibility for licensure in Georgia. Eligible for appointment at Emory University School of Medicine.
