Registered Nurse - Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP)

Shift Information

12-hour night shifts, potentially covering holidays and weekends. Guaranteed 36 hours per week with opportunities for labor call or overtime.

Job Description

As a Registered Nurse I (RN I), you will provide compassionate and high-quality patient- and family-centered care through the full nursing process, which includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. You are expected to work in both Labor & Delivery and Postpartum units.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough patient assessments and create individualized care plans.
• Deliver direct patient care across the lifespan while promoting optimal health outcomes.
• Provide clear, culturally sensitive education to patients and families, fostering health literacy and successful transitions of care.
• Direct and supervise licensed practical nurses, nursing assistants, and other ancillary personnel.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record.
• Collaborate effectively with physicians, therapists, and the broader care team.
• Participate in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and ongoing professional development.
• Float to other departments as needed, with appropriate orientation and training.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support hospital operations and patient needs.

General Qualifications

• Current New Mexico RN license or active Multi-State Compact (eNLC) license.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification from an accredited provider.
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) is required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
• Education and clinical experience that provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for the assigned department.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and critical-thinking skills.
• Ability to deliver compassionate, culturally competent care across all ages.
• Strong team player with flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
• Commitment to professional growth and lifelong learning.

Physical, Environmental & Psychological Considerations

• Frequent exposure to bloodborne pathogens, body fluids, infectious diseases, and biohazardous materials.
• Work primarily in a temperature-controlled environment with occasional exposure to varied sounds and emotionally challenging situations.
• Must be physically able to lift, position, and transfer patients using proper mechanics and assistive equipment.
• Ability to work effectively under stress, respond calmly to emergencies, and maintain strong problem-solving skills.
• Team-oriented, adaptable, and resilient in dynamic clinical situations.

Department-Specific Qualifications

• Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Intermediate Fetal Monitoring required.
• Completion of OPS Emergency Workshop and STABLE certification within 12 months of hire.
• SAFER NM Technician certification preferred.
• Proficient in all aspects of perinatal care, labor support, delivery, and newborn assessment.

Holiday coverage is required.

Minimum Years of Experience

Less than 1 year of experience is acceptable.
