SENIOR PUBLIC HEALTH NUTRITIONIST SUPERVISOR

Department of Health – Hillsborough County Division of WIC/Nutrition Location 9827 Sheldon Road, Tampa, FL 33635 Responsibilities This position spends more than 50% of the time engaged in supervisory responsibilities. This includes communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees in addition to planning and directing employees’ work. The incumbent will also be required to meet with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, maintain vacation and work schedules, ensuring proper coverage, and complete timesheets. Conducts and documents clinic staff meetings monthly. Conducts audits on direct reports using the appropriate tool and completes monthly productivity reports. Reviews the Local Agency Program findings and develops clinic Corrective Action Plan. Monitors and addresses key process indicator reports to meet program goals. Reviews and approves Employee Activity Record System and travel of direct reports. Interviewing and screening participants for WIC eligibility determination. Identifies nutrition risks based on the assessment of the nutrition questionnaire, health data and health history. Provides and documents client centered nutrition education, goal(s) and refers to outside programs. Assigns food packages based on nutrition assessment and program criteria. Focuses on meeting the needs of medically high risk clients following the Women, Infants, and Children Procedure Manual, Nutrition Care Manual and the Women, Infants, and Children Competent Professional Authority Guidebook. Completes and submits time in Employee Activity Record System (EARS), travel, timesheets, assignments and reports in accordance with established agency and division guidelines. Email communication must be maintained on a daily basis. Communicates with courtesy, respect, and understanding when dealing with clients, the public and staff. Attends staff meetings, trainings and meetings as required. Adheres to assigned work duties as designated by supervisor and performs other related tasks as necessary. Your Specific Responsibilities As a supervisor, trains, motivates, evaluates and monitors the daily work activities of the Public Health Nutritionist, Nutrition Educators, Public Assistance Specialist(s), Senior Clerk(s) and Health Support Technician(s). Reviews and analyzes worker productivity and performance on a monthly basis in assigned clinics. Completes WIC certifications by providing nutrition assessments and counseling to clients on normal and therapeutic diets. Provides breastfeeding education and support to WIC clients. Consults with health care practitioners to determine nutrition or health needs and diet prescription of WIC clients. Develops, documents and implements nutrition care plans based on assessments of nutrition needs and other current health plans, and provides follow up and referral as needed. Reviews annual Q/A team audit results and completes corrective action plan addressing all clinic deficiencies. Monitors clinic key process indicators and corrective action steps to ensure goals of clinic and nutrition division are being met. Prepares materials and reports pertaining to Nutrition Education as requested by Federal and State auditors. Coordinates with the Senior Human Services Program Manager regarding the Nutrition Education plan for WIC participants. Conducts and/or attends health-related meetings, staff meetings, committees, and work groups. Assists with outreach activities, health fairs and other community activities as needed. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Effective verbal and written communication and telephone etiquette skills. Knowledge of local, state, and federal WIC Program policies and procedures. Knowledge of current science and practice of food, nutrition and dietetics; normal nutrition principles and dietary needs throughout the life cycle. Ability to access appropriate and effective feeding for women, infants and children. Knowledge of medical terminology. Effectively counsel using the Value Enhanced Nutrition Assessment (VENA) techniques. Nutrition charting techniques using the designated format. Ability to use office equipment (computer, digital scale, stature board, Hemocue machine, copier, telephone, etc). Knowledge of medical terminology. Computer skills: thorough knowledge, skills and ability to use Excel, Word. Excellent customer service skills, maintains client confidentiality and effective working relationships. Ability to lift and transfer all supplies required to perform job duties. Qualifications Bachelor of Science degree or master's degree in Nutritional Sciences, Community Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or Home Economics with emphasis in Nutrition per WIC Federal Regulation, CFR, Title 7, Part 246. This occupation requires that the incumbents meet the requirements outlined in Chapter 468, Part X, Florida Statutes, or be eligible to practice dietetics in accordance with Chapter 68-40 to 45, Florida Administrative Code. Valid State of Florida License as a Dietitian/Nutritionist issued by the Division of Medical Quality Assurance. Preferred Bi-lingual, fluent in both English and Spanish.
