Mortgage Loan Originator

Primary Function Within authorized authority and in accordance with sound underwriting practices as outlined in policy and procedure, this position interviews mortgage loan applicants, initiates applications for credit or extension of lines of credit secured by real property at the member’s home, place of business, or other appropriate locations external to the organization’s facilities. The role also assists members with other products the Credit Union offers, participates in real estate business development activities, and periodically supports the Department Manager in daily operations and planning of the mortgage function. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Personally interview applicants and record required information accurately. Generate referral business, leads, and relationships with clients, partner groups, and real estate professionals. Analyze lending opportunities to assist borrowers and expand the Credit Union’s relationship. Provide financial counseling through interviewing, application taking, and pre‑qualifying applicants. Ensure loan agreements are complete and accurate according to policy, regulation, and secondary market requirements. Resolve mortgage applications and related problems successfully. Cross‑sell other lending, deposit, or investment products to borrowers, educating them on benefits of additional Credit Union services. Deliver sales presentations to staff, members, partner groups, realtor/builder offices, and at mortgage seminars. Prepare periodic reports and assist in product development/training to foster growth of loan products. Stay informed on market trends and support the development/implementation of new products, sharing insights with appropriate personnel. Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of lending guidelines to ensure informed and reasonable decisions. Represent the Credit Union at realtor/builder meetings, luncheons, association meetings, and business/social events. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field of study. Minimum 3‑5 years of experience in origination, servicing, or underwriting. Other Skills & Abilities Excellent communication, organization, time‑management, and decision‑making skills. Extensive knowledge of all types of mortgage loan programs and secondary market requirements. In-depth understanding of Federal and State regulations affecting mortgage lending, including FHA, VA, and construction loans. Ability to compute rates, ratios, percentages, and interpret financial reports. Physical Demands Regular use of hands, frequent walking and sitting, occasional standing, reaching, kneeling, and lifting up to 15 pounds. Requires close and peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. Regulatory Compliance & Confidentiality Adherence to Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC), Anti‑Money Laundering (AML) Regulations, and all related compliance policies.
