Vornoy Advisors is a New York-based strategic finance practice. We serve as our clients’ CFO and finance department, delivering operator-grade finance - FP&A, scenario modeling, unit economics, fundraise preparation, investor reporting - to founder-led consumer brands in the $5–100M revenue range (food & beverage, fashion and apparel, beauty and wellness, consumer goods, and hospitality). Our work is backed by Vornoy, our in-house analytics platform that gives clients real-time visibility into the data their finance team is operating on.

We are hiring a Senior Finance Associate to sit second chair on client engagements, with a path to Vice President in about two years.

The seat

You will sit second chair on client engagements alongside a Vice President who holds first chair. Each engagement is structured like a VP Finance or Head of Finance role inside a company that does not have a full-time finance team — you are inside that work from the start, not adjacent to it.

You are client-facing immediately. Second chair here is not a back-office seat: you are on the founder calls, you own material that goes in front of the client, and the client knows your name.

The path up is deliberate. Promotions are reviewed annually, on performance, and Senior Finance Associates graduate to Vice President by taking first chair on accounts they already second-chair - expect roughly two years to get there. We are hiring for the Vice President you will become, not only for the Senior Finance Associate you are on day one.

Day-to-day looks like:

• Weekly founder/CEO calls alongside the first chair
• Financial model build, maintenance, and scenario planning
• Three-statement modeling, forecasting, cohort and retention analyses, channel-mix and unit-economics work
• Budget-vs-actual cadence and the commentary that goes with it
• Board-pack and investor-reporting production
• Pricing analysis and ad-hoc strategic work
• Supporting monthly close oversight (you and the first chair supervise; neither of you performs the close)

You will not be performing the monthly close, generating statutory financial statements, or running AP/AR. Our Client Accounting Services team owns that scope.

Every engagement runs on Vornoy, our in-house analytics platform - you work from live, reconciled client data.

What this seat is not

To be specific about fit, this seat is not:

• A junior or training seat. You are on client calls in your first week and carrying real engagement load in your first month.
• A back-office analyst role. You are not building schedules for someone else to present.
• An accounting or controllership role. Our Client Accounting Services Team owns that practice.
• A sales role. You are not expected to originate new business or carry a book.
• A platform engineering role. You will use Vornoy and standard finance tools - we like candidates who write code, but you are not building the product.
• A transactions role. This is operator finance - the week-over-week close, model, and board cadence of a company - not M&A, deal execution, PE deal teams, or investment banking.

The candidate

The right person has spent the past three to six years in finance, including at least a year in an operator-side finance seat inside a company. You have built a model from scratch and been in the room when it was used to make a decision. You are as comfortable with statistics as with a three-statement model, and finance is where you want to build your career.

The title is Senior Finance Associate because the seat is built to grow: second-chair reps across several clients now, first chair later.

Required

• 3-6 years in finance, including at least one year in an operator-side finance seat (FP&A or equivalent) inside a company
• Based in New York City, or within commuting distance of it, today
• Deeply quantitative in practice, whatever your degree says - you have built a model from scratch and can defend the math in it, and you are fluent in advanced Excel
• Comfortable in SQL, and ideally Python or R
• Direct ownership of some of: three-statement model build, budget-vs-actual cadence and commentary, board-pack or investor-reporting production, and scenario and unit-economics analysis
• Client-ready from day one - comfortable on a call with a founder and their team without a script
• Strong written and verbal communication; able to hold a hard conversation with a founder
• Able to carry multiple concurrent engagements from the start

Valued, but not required

• Prior multi-client exposure (fractional/advisory, or operating-side portfolio-company finance)
• An owned equity fundraise from the finance side
• Applied statistics in Python or R - regression, time-series forecasting, cohort or LTV analysis, experimentation - used on real business decisions; a quantitative degree (statistics, mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering, applied economics) helps
• Operator-side experience at founder-led or venture-backed consumer brands, ideally $7.5-50M in revenue; on-premise or hospitality channel exposure a plus
• Familiarity with QuickBooks Online, Shopify, Stripe, Toast, R365

• CPA license
• MBA
• Big Four or public accounting background

Compensation and structure

This is a W-2 role. There is no equity component.

Total compensation: $135,000 - $165,000.

• Promotions are reviewed annually, on performance, with the compensation step that goes with each; Vice President is targeted at approximately two years
• Standard benefits: medical, dental, vision, HSA, 401(k) with company match
• Remote-first, based in New York City. The NYC team gathers in the office about one day a week, so you need to live in or within commuting distance of the city today.
• Reports directly to the firm’s founder; day-to-day you work alongside the Vice President holding first chair on each of your engagements
