Shift: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM

Experience:

• 12 months of experience with 3 months worked in the last 12 months.

• 18 months of Medical Surgical Float Pool experience.

• Experience with Cerner is preferred.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have a Alabama license or compact license (required after submission).

• This role may require floating to additional units and locations

• Travel only, local not allowed. Candidates must live >60 miles from facility to be submitted.

• 6 months gap required between for Staff at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB and no current placement allowed at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB.

Additional Details:

Required Skills/Experience: First-time travelers allowed with at least 18 months of MedSurg experience and Epic or Cerner experience. At least 1 year of trauma/surgical experience.

Preferred Skills/Experience: Chemo experience highly preferred.

Former staff must be gone for 6 months before returning as a traveler, measured from last shift worked to start date. Holiday time off will not be contractually guaranteed prior to arrival. 2026 blackout RTO dates: Martin Luther King Jr. Day 1/19-20; Valentine’s Day week 2/13-16; entire month of March; Easter weekend 4/18-20; Mother’s Day weekend 5/10-12; Memorial Day week 5/24-5/26; Father’s Day weekend 6/14-16; Fourth of July 7/3-6; Labor Day weekend 8/30-9/1; Halloween 10/30-11/2; Thanksgiving 11/26-30; Christmas and New Year’s 12/21-1/1.

Unit Details: Float pool supports 6 North Trauma Surgical, 5 South Neuroscience, 5 North MedSurg/Oncology, 4 South Clinical Decision Unit, 3 South Orthopedics, and 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology. 6 North Trauma Surgical: general surgery and vascular surgeries; patient ratio 1:5-6; expected skills include wound care, chest tubes, NGTs, IV skills, medication administration/documentation, and escalations. 5 South Neuroscience: CVA, TBI, seizure, AMS, spinal fusion, craniotomy, degenerative diseases, post-trauma, and angiogram patients; patient ratio 1:5-6; expected skills include IV starts, blood draws from central lines, trach care, PEG, NGT, colostomy/ostomy care, wound care, chest tubes, surgical site care, C-collars, abdominal binders, and restraints. 5 North MedSurg/Oncology: MS/oncology, palliative care, and ETOH withdrawal; all patient types except stroke and MI; patient ratio 1:6 for RNs and LPNs; expected skills include trach care, chest tubes, PEG tubes, wound care, drains, foleys, IV starts, and chemo administration if certified. Telemetry is monitored on hallway monitors and by tele techs on the ground floor. 4 South Clinical Decision Unit: general MedSurg patients including COPD, CHF, diabetes, MRSA, VRE, C-diff, COVID, pneumonia, renal failure, sepsis, UTI, and end-of-life comfort; patient ratio 1:5-6; expected skills include tracheotomy care, suctioning, O2 therapy, ostomy care, Foley care, external catheter care, PEG/NGT care and use, wound care, chest tubes, central line care, pressure ulcer management/preventive measures, falls prevention management, and restraints. 3 South Orthopedics: orthopedic and spine patients including joint replacements, fractures, fusions, and laminectomies; patient ratio 1:5, 1:6 if MedSurg; expected skills include PCA pumps, wound care with negative pressure dressings, dressing changes, foleys, and hemovac/JP drains. 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology: urology, ENT, ortho, and MedSurg; patient ratio 1:5-6; expected skills include trach care, wound care, wound vacs, IV starts, CVL dressing changes, and nurse-driven Foley protocol. Support includes CNAs at 1:6 for vital signs, ADLs, and glucose checks, receptionist/HUC support, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalist coverage. RNs are required to interpret and confirm telemetry strip readings every 4 hours. Equipment includes Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors. Parking: Parking deck only 2nd through 4th levels

Shift & Scheduling: 12-hour nights with flexible contract hours: 36 or 48 per week. Every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month. No call. One major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy.

Floating Requirements: Float to any like unit/patient location (MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds; ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task or limit of 3, ICU-ER/ICU holds).

10 days maximum time off.
