Medical/Surgical Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Medical/Surgical Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team for a night shift position. This role involves caring for a diverse patient population, including those with COPD exacerbations, congestive heart failure (CHF), and various long-term care needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in a 25 private-bed unit.
• Monitor patients using central telemetry and manage two portable telemetry monitors.
• Administer medications, IV therapies, and provide wound care.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including social services and case managers, to coordinate patient care.
• Float to the emergency department when necessary, functioning as a task nurse.

Patient Population

The unit primarily serves patients with the following conditions:

• Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) exacerbations
• Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
• Patients requiring swing bed services, including amputations and long-term antibiotic therapy
• Occasional postpartum and pediatric patients

Work Environment

This position is set in a supportive and well-equipped environment, featuring:

• A nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4, with 1:5 as a maximum stretch.
• Availability of a charge nurse on every shift who does not take patients.
• In-house pharmacy until 11:00 PM on weekdays, with remote pharmacist support after hours.
• Access to 24/7 laboratory services for blood draws.
• Excellent therapy services for patient rehabilitation.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 2 years of experience in a Medical Surgical/Telemetry unit is required.
• Prior experience in a Critical Access Hospital is mandatory.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications are required; PALS certification is preferred.

Orientation and Scheduling

Orientation will be conducted every Wednesday and includes:

• Three days of classroom training
• One day of clinical shift with a preceptor

Shifts are 12 hours long, with times ranging from 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM and 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM. The manager will add travelers to the schedule after staff self-scheduling is completed.

Transportation Requirements

It is important to note that the area does not have Uber or Lyft services; therefore, reliable personal transportation is necessary for commuting to and from the assignment.
